Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Reviewed with John F. Grabowski's The Dallas Cowboys.

Gr. 7-9. From the crunch of helmets on the gridiron to the squeak of high-tops on the polished wooden floor, these entries in the Great Sports Teams series examine the history, the players, and the fans of some of the great dynasties in American sport. In Dallas Cowboys, Grabowski points out that it was questionable whether the Cowboys, which began as an expansion team, would have a chance against the legendary Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears: now, five Super Bowls later, they have proved they have what it takes to play in the NFL. The story of the Lakers tracks the team from the "Land of 10,000 Lakes" to its current home in Los Angeles. As the histories unfold, readers are introduced to some of the players, coaches, and owners. Photographs add browser interest, and each volume has a comprehensive bibliography and suggestions for further reading. Public and school libraries searching for a series rich in popular appeal will want to consider these volumes. Heather Hepler

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book about a great team, October 14, 2005
This review is from: Great Sports Teams - The Los Angeles Lakers (Hardcover)
The Los Angeles Lakers is a well-written book about the history of the Lakers from Minneapolis to LA. It tells you so much about the players. Since I play basketball it gives you great tips.It also says how hard some of the players played like Jerry West who, when he was a teen, played so hard he bled from his hands. The author explains Lakers basketball who went from its lows to being one of the most dangerous teams in the NBA. This is one of the best sports books I have read.
