5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best never-heard-of albums ever
I bought this album after I bought Paradise in Me, and I thought it would be a typical not-as-good freshman album. Boy, was I wrong! This album has a completely different sound than the second, and it's wonderfull! It goes from whymsical to heart-wrenching between a few tracks. 3.0 out of 5 stars For you who haven't buy any K's choice album yet
Well, all I gotta say is that the preicieding reviews should have been written by fans. As a... let's say "neutral" fan, this album though pretty good shouldn't be rated 5 stars. For me "Paradise in Me" is way better and it contains the hit "Not an Addict". If you still don't have it , let's buy this one first. "The great subconscious...

I bought this album after I bought Paradise in Me, and I thought it would be a typical not-as-good freshman album. Boy, was I wrong! This album has a completely different sound than the second, and it's wonderfull! It goes from whymsical to heart-wrenching between a few tracks. Songs like 'Me Happy', 'Breakfast', and 'I Smoke a Lot' set the lighthearted atmosphere, but then songs like 'My Heart' throw you. 'My Heart' is one of my personal favorite songs ever. It's one of the few songs ever that provoke and emotional response from me, and when I play it on the guitar, and my friend sings, it's almost a religious experiance. Take my word for it, buy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fabulous, December 5, 2003
This review is from: Great Subconscious Club (Audio CD)
The Great Subconscious Club surprised me a lot. I expected darker, more upbeat songs such as those on Paradise In Me. Instead I found a great CD that is perfect for any occasion, be it studying for finals or background music at a party. Here's a quick lowdown of some of the songs.

Me Happy- A faster, fun song. Love the lyrics. It's all about what you want to say but can't because you have tact. Wonderful.

Breakfast- A slower song about innocence and surprise.

I Wanna Meet the Man- This was my least favourite song on the CD. Some parts were reminiscent of country, which I tend to avoid at all costs. This is the one song on the album I skip.

What the Hell is Love?- A sad song about the little part of us that is nurturing, caring, but always very alone. This song almost makes me cry, it's beautiful but insightful.

I smoke a Lot- This is definately my favourite song on this album. Even though I don't smoke, I totally got it. It's mellow but you can still dance to it. It has a strolling beat in the back which makes it pleasant to listen to, and keeps your feet tapping away.

The Ballad of Lea and Paul- This was an interesting song about appearances and perception. It is upbeat and fun, without being overly happy. I love the duet parts with Sarah and Gert(?) it brings another aspect into the music I don't recall hearing before.

This is definately worth your money, and it has a place of honour on my CD rack. Space out.

I admire Sarah's voice and although the three K's Choice albums are fantastic I find this one the most passionate and wonderful album I've ever listened to.The songs 'winter' and 'what the hell is love' go right thrue my heart...

5.0 out of 5 stars A sure bet, June 12, 1998
This review is from: Great Subconscious Club (Audio CD)
I discovered that album while in Switzerland in 1995. The band was then named "The Choice" and I got really hooked to their songs. Great music, great lyrics and the incredible voice of Sarah Bethens. One of the rare albums where almost all the songs are good.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Band, March 25, 1999

This review is from: Great Subconscious Club (Audio CD)
K's Choice has been my favorite band ever since I heard "Not an Addict" from Paradise in Me. I have all three CDs and I can't say enough about them. If you want to hear the most amazing voice coupled with the most amazing lyrics and music, this is the band.

4.0 out of 5 stars Calm and intimate featuring great lyrics and Sarah's voice, April 25, 2004
By
This review is from: Great Subconscious Club (Audio CD)
I discovered this album only after being an avid K's Choice listener for quite a while. «The Great Subconscious Club» is K's Choice's debut album, back from the time the band was still a small Belgium based act named «The Choice».

If you've heard the band's following albums, you'll probably notice a natural evolution, with this record being the less mature of them all. Nevertheless, the Betten brothers made their first album work like a charm, with remarkable lyrics that could easily go into a poetry book and the Sarah Betten's voice being as great as always. Calm and beautifully heart-felt songs like «My Heart» or «Winter» contrast with the light and melodic song that would be perfect played by the fire, «Breakfast». This mix of slow and instrospective songs with funnier and more rocky tunes mark the band's roots and are noticeable in their following albums.

I will rate it 4* since i believed that K's Choice improved from album to album - with each one being better than the previous - and i'll be keeping the top rating for those.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was forced to listen to this CD, and now I love it!, July 2, 1998
This review is from: Great Subconscious Club (Audio CD)
A friend of mine introduced me to this band and CD when she was going to cover a song for a coffee house at school. I listen to it non-stop, it has wonderful harmonies and soothing tracks, as well as some songs that really rock!

5.0 out of 5 stars Subconsciously Infective, June 13, 2001

Every word Sarah Bettens utters is enough to make you wonder how someone from Belgium would ever have such a wonderful grasp for writing in english. Everything is said so well by their lyrics that you will find yourself thinking of their songs in the most outrageous situations. "My Heart" is the most beautiful song i have ever heard, and the rest of the album minus "I will Return to You" will keep you entertained. This is a musically toned down version of their newer cd's, and if you want to get to know the band through their music, this is the way to do it. I have all 4 of their true albums and this holds it's own, and is one of the best albums to relax to of all 200 i have.

When I met K's Choice, I needed something for them to sign. I did not have thier first album at the time, so I went and bought it and they signed it! I LOVE this album... along with the rest... because it's their first... it's a must have for TRUE K's Choice fans... Buy it! You won't be disappointed!
