5.0 out of 5 stars The most fun you can have with paper
This book had me laughing out loud. Some of the stories are a bit hard to follow, but just when I got really confused a light would come on and I would be laughing all over again. The voice is sly and daring - highly recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars I think Lily should go back to graduate school.
I don't really get the sense that Lily has ever sat down to revise anything she's ever written; these stories are as underdeveloped as they are idiotic. Let us not spend any more bandwith on such a mind-numbingly boring topic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and unique, with a delightful writing style, December 10, 2000

Lily James' style of writing surprises with its many hidden and funny implications that only strike you three sentences later. This book made me laugh out loud and will appeal to readers who love to know what makes other people think and behave the way they do. A fine new author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some real gems, June 27, 2002
By
This review is from: The Great Taste of Straight People (Black Ice Books) (Paperback)
The short stories composing James' THE GREAT TASTE OF STRAIGHT PEOPLE are very, very short. Some are amazing, and some are mediocre. All are challenging. This writer shows great talent and the gems in this book (including the opening story) make it worth while.

5.0 out of 5 stars free spirit and incisive intellect, July 18, 2000

I loved this book. If a man had written it, everyone would be praising it....it's very funny, and very sad, and the voice is quite unique. Ahead of its time.

4.0 out of 5 stars the complexity of nothingness, July 15, 1998

Lily flat out confused me and made me feel like I was doing everything in my life incorrectly, which is probally true. she follows a daft path of twisted logic and rational reasonings to come to the conclusion that this is it, so deal.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very hard to follow. Even harder to swallow., June 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Great Taste of Straight People (Black Ice Books) (Paperback)
Lily James, in her debut anti-masterwork weaves a complicated, yet unsatisfying web of short post-feminist fictions in this slim volume. I found her characters to be too elusive to be interesting; too self-serving to be entertaining. Almost as much of a literary crime as her mentor Cris Mazza's seven egocentric, overblown works of "faux art."
