5.0 out of 5 stars The Atrributes of God Made Practical to Our Minds, April 20, 2009
What would you expect when you buy a book on the attributes of God? Whatever it may be that you expect, it probably will not be what you get when you begin to read Galli's book A Great and Terrible Love (hereon referred to a GTL).

That's not to say that the book is bad. I greatly enjoyed it. The book is surprising.

GTL takes some of the attributes of God and examines them. It is not examination in a theology proper sort of way, though. We tend to think of attributes of God such as omnipotence, omniscience, transcendence, love, righteousness, etc. as abstract things. Galli does not, and with good reason. They are not abstract. They are lively attributes of the living God.

GTL is an examination of the attributes of God in a very practical way. How do they affect my life? What significance do they hold for us? What is their importance to Christians? These are important questions. GTL goes far in answering them.

Galli has written GTL to be very easy to read. It is not hard reading. I read the book in less than three hours. I honestly did not want to put it down.

This book could be the gateway book that would bring someone into the study of theology.

All oft this being said, I did tend to have a concern about Galli's rendition of the righteousness of God. Perhaps it was his attempt to show us one side of it that left me with a little discomfort. It seemed to be a departure from the typical view of righteousness. It may not have been, but it left that impression with me. I do not think his statement is heretical. I do think it is lacking.

All in all, this book is excellent. It certainly could comfort many a troubled soul. It will also provide knowledge of God to one who is seeking to learn.
