5.0 out of 5 stars Ford is easily one of the greatest hymn singers of all time
This CD by Tennessee Ernie Ford is, like every hymn record he made, exceptional. From the title track, "How Great Thou Art" to the powerful "Take my Hand, Precious Lord" to "The Old Rugged Cross," Ford's brilliance at singing the greatest of hymn standards.

It is generally conceded that Mahalia Jackson was the greatest female Gospel singer of all time. "Tennessee" Ernie Ford was, in my personal estimation, the greatest male Gospel singer of all time. As Willie Nelson once said: "All music is Gospel."

I am 83 years old. Upon checking the internet for the words to a hymn I wanted sung at my funeral, from my computer I heard Tennessee Ernie Ford sing PRECIOUS LORD, TAKE MY HAND. Since my father was born and raised in Tennessee and Ernie's accent matched my father's, I wanted that CD. I had never heard the hymn sung more beautifully. It took awhile for me to find that he sang PRECIOUS LORD on an old album HOW GREAT THOU ART. I am indebted to Amazon for helping me locate the old CD.I am an almost weekly customer. Love Amazon!

A wonderful listening experience. Gospel songs with out the drums and exageration of today supposedly gospel music. Great voice. Find myself singing along, most the time. :O) I recommend all his music.

I remember listening to this artist sing when I was growing up and I had always love to hear his voice,so I was glad that I took the oportunity to buy this CD and to be able to listen to it any time. My son heard it and he found it pleasant to listen to as well.
