5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, January 30, 2002
By
Peter D. Glickenhaus (Morrisville, NC United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Great Tribulation (Paperback)
In this book, Chilton confidently and simply proposes that the Great Tribulation, which many expect to arrive in the near future, is actually a past event. To substantiate his argument, he gives an honest hermeneutical appraisal of Christ's teaching in the Olivet Discourse (Matt. 24; Lk. 21; Mk. 13) as well as other places in the Gospels, and gives a topical commentary on the book of Revelation - all this to successfully demonstrate that these events find their fulfillment in our past, not in our future.
Perhaps you disagree - you chuckle as you read this and asseverate in your mind that such a teaching is manifestly impossible. Yet, have you ever read the arguments? Challenged your own? Don't shy away from this great book! Let it challenge you! If, after reading, you still disagree... fine. But don't fail to give a little attention to one of the most quickly advancing eschatological positions today!

Sandwiched by the comments of Gary North, the book has the following chapters:

1. The Terminal Generation
2. Coming on the Clouds
3. The Coming of the Antichrist
4. The Last Days
5. The Coming of the New Covenant
6. The Four Horsemen
7. Vengeance for the Martyrs
8. The Book is Opened
9. Jerusalem Under Siege
9. All Creation Takes Vengeance
10. It is Finished!

Hope you enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Until now,nor ever shall be, January 22, 2000
This review is from: The Great Tribulation (Paperback)
"Until now,nor ever shall be" phrase from Matthew 24:21 is often over looked when most apply this verse to a future cataclysmic end time event, especially since in Matthew 24:34 Jesus says that this tribulation would happen in their generation.Since it happened then how could it be yet future? Well Mr.Gentry explains this in stunningly great detail for a book of such smallish size. I implore you eschatology buffs to read this one. It is only such a shame that Mr.Gentry had to depart this earth at such a young age. He will be truely missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A STIMULATING BOOK OF ESCHATOLOGY BY A PROMINENT CHRISTIAN RECONSTRUCTIONIST, September 28, 2010
This review is from: The Great Tribulation (Paperback)
David Chilton (1951-1997) was a Calvinist pastor, Christian Reconstructionist, and author of several other books on eschatology (Paradise Restored: A Biblical Theology of Dominion and The Days of Vengeance: An Exposition of the Book of Revelation). He has also written such books as Productive Christians in an Age of Guilt-Manipulation: A Biblical Response to Ronald J. Sider.

Here are some quotations from the book:

"The Lord Jesus declared that 'THIS generation'---people THEN LIVING---would not pass away before the things He prophesied took place. The question is, do you believe Him?" (Pg. 3)
"Jesus seems to be saying (in Mt. 24:29-31) that the Second Coming will occur immediately after the Tribulation. Did the Second Coming occur in A.D. 70? Have we missed it? First, let us be clear about one thing at the outset: there is just no getting around that word IMMEDIATELY. It means immediately ... whatever Jesus is talking about in these verses happened immediately afterward." (Pg. 17)
"(T)he word 'Antichrist' never appears in the Book of Revelation. Not once... Obviously, there is no question that the Beast is an enemy of Christ, and is thus 'anti' Christ in that sense; my point, however, is that the term Antichrist is used in a very specific sense, and is essentially unrelated to the figure known as 'the Beast' and '666.'" (Pg. 32)
"A problem for 'literalists' arises here, for Megiddo is a city on a plain---not a mountain! There never was and never will be a literal 'Battle or Armageddon,' for there is no such place. The mountain nearest to the plain of Megiddo is Mount Carmel, and this is presumably what St. John had in mind." (Pg. 142)
