Grade 2-3-A sequel to Great-Uncle Dracula (Random, 1992). Emily and Elliot Normal live with their vampire uncle in Transylvania. When Elliot's pet rat ruins Emily's history project, she is furious and agrees to let her friend Winnie, a witch, turn the boy into a bug. The spell fails, however, and gives him the Transylvania Flu instead. Emily feels guilty and confesses about the spell, and the boy responds by forcing her to become his slave for a week. During her servitude, she must care for his pet. Continuing his diabolical habits, the rodent hides in her knapsack, eats her math homework, and wreaks havoc in the school cafeteria. Sister and brother eventually tell all to Great-Uncle Dracula, and the rat is sent to obedience school. Carter's pencil drawings increase the humor. A rollicking tale, with scary bits interspersed, that should keep transitional readers interested.
