The best from the best,
This review is from: Great White - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Great White in my mind is one of the greatest bands ever to play hard rock/heavy blues music. They are right there with the likes of Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. Thier music, while not the most groundbreaking, was pure and filled with emotion. Anyone of the tracks on this greatest hits collection is a song that fits a mood. Once Bitten, Twice Shy puts you in that feel good mood. Songs like House of Broken Love and Mista Bone are perfect for that early morning drive through south eastern California and by the time you got into las Vegas there was songs like Rock Me and Lady Red Light. Great music for all good times
I just love this band and it really upsets me that when most people hear the name Great White, they will think of the Tragedy that killed 100. I try to forget that sad day, but for the band, that is not an option. The fact of the matter is that they should have been rock icons by 2003 and not playing death traps like that place in Rhode Island. Now, I see that people are making jokes about that day. Do people have any care for anyone? That is not the point. This is one of the greatest bands in the last 25 years and this CD is good for starters that would like to hear something that is greatly under-rated

Great underrated band...,

The bluesy hard rock band Great White have been around for over 20 years. They got some attention in the late 80's with their cover of Ian Hunter's "Twice Shy" and (unfortunately) recently with the tragic fire at their show in RI. Of their many compilations, this is easily the best. I'd rather have studio versions of "House Of Broken Love" and "Desert Moon" and the blues mix of "Face The Day" is too long, but those are minor complaints. It's missing some good songs ("Lady Red Light", "Afterglow", "Can't Shake It", "Rollin' Stoned") but what's here sounds great. The MTV Unplugged version of Led Zeppelin's "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" is good to have (GW cover Zeppelin better than any other band I've heard), as is the B-side "Wasted Rock Ranger". A good overview of a great band.

Best Cover of all time,

Suffice it to say, this cd has all of the familiar Great White stand-bys, "Once bitten twice shy, "Afterglow" (live). But what this cd has that no other cd in the world does (and I know because I've looked high and low for it), is a cover of Led Zepplin's "Babe I'm Leavin' you." Now, I know what you are thinking; "Hey, there is a version of that cover on another Great White compilation cd!" This is true. However, that version on the other compilation was performed on stage at a huge outdoor concert and the only thing that sounded worse than the band being out of time was the terrible mixing from the sound board. The version I am referring to was taped for "MTV Unplugged." I have never been a huge fan of Great White. They are a good band with a considerable amount of talent, write well, and are great musicians, but when they performed that cover on "Unplugged", they captured, in that song, the passion and intense regret and pain that Robert Plant had intended but could not convey as well. Robert Plant is a legend, an icon of rock, a master of phrasing, arranging, and not not without passion of his own and even he said when asked about the cover that he wished he could have done as good a job on that song originally!!! The price for this disc is more than worth it for just that track. Highest recommendation!!!

Good collection! Has the long awaited b-side "Wasted Rock Ranger!" Only complaint is that it doesn't have enough songs from the album "hooked". Other wise it would be perfect!

I went to a motorcycle rallie and Great White was the Sat. nite headlinner. The lead up bands were OK, but Great White(new members and all) absolutely rocked the house. Their blues was supperb. The album has a couple of tracks that get off message, but is still a VERY good buy.

Incredibly Great White,

What can I say? This album rocks! I`ve been into glam a long time, and there is no Poison, Warrant or Cinderella which can stand against these guys. Great White, despite being put in the `glam-metal catalog` just because they were a succesful 80s hard rock band, but, in spite of this, their songs are very rolling stones and Aerosmith influenced, while all the glam-metal bands just tried to be a crossover between Kiss and Motley Crue. Their music shows an incredible solidity, and songs like Rock Me, Once Bitten, Stick It, House Of Broken Love and Desert Moon go directly in a rock`n roll anthology, anfd Wasted Rock Ranger takes ...of all their contemporary groups with the chorus `when we reach n.1 we`ll all overdose for fun and go and visit Jimi and his friends`.You may not like this as much as I do, but if you don`t like it you obviously don`t understand anything of rock`n roll.

great cd from a great band. saw them live last year. they can still rock me. i would say 5 stars except they wasted space putting wasted rock ranger on the cd. definitely not a greatest hit. with all the great songs they have, they wasted a track on this song. jack russell is one great great singer. if their music doesn't bring goosebumps you don't like rock music. jack has had bad health and i hope he gets better.

I had never heard of 80's rockers Great White until they made the news a few years ago when a band member was killed in a concert fire, in a too crowded night club in the east. Numerous people died and they were part of an intense blame game investigation into violations of fire safety regulations. I was curious so I bought their first album. I liked them after the first play. Good hard rock/// But with some soft rock thrown in. Almost every song was great . House of Broken Love and Rock Me are stand outs that I play over and over//. Great guitar work by Ty Longley who died in the fire.
