Almost thought it was Zeppelin for a moment!,

This review is from: Great Zeppelin: Tribute to Led Zeppelin (Audio CD)
First off I want to say that I'm with Jason here, to the miserable twats who say "its plagarism! They're just copying Zeppelin", I have to say no schitt, really? What was you're first clue, the fact that all the songs are Led Zeppelin songs? Maybe the fact that the album is called 'Great Zeppelin - A Tribute To Led Zeppelin' tipped you off? You mugs! You see, I'm not one of these fans who say "Zeppelin are rock gods, nobody should have the right to touch their songs!". Perhaps figuratively speaking Led Zeppelin are rock Gods to many people, in reality they are not Gods, just extremely talented humans, and as for nobody having the right to attempt to play their songs? F*ck off! This is rock n' roll, who do you people think you are, the frigging pope? Spare us the sanctimonious buffoonery, I'd encourage any band to give Led Zeppelin songs a go!
This seems like a damn good tribute to the "Rock Gods". They seem to have done a good job, and fair play to them. I'd love to see this live!

This collection from Great White is a nice listening alternative for Led Zeppelin fans. (I am one of those fans) It is rumored that when Great White first started out, they cut their teeth on Led Zeppelin songs.
This collection rocks, there are songs performed here that Led Zeppelin very rarely performed live, to the best of my recollection. Those songs are: IN THE LIGHT, LIVING LOVING MAID, RAMBLE ON, TANGERINE, THE ROVER, WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKS. I saw Zep perform in '77 and the first Page/Plant tour. Great White performs 14 Zeppelin songs and sticks essentially to the studio versions. No extended jams, just basic rockin Zep. Jack Russell does a great job on vocals, very Robert Plant like in most cases, on some songs, he is tremendous - In The Light, Ramble On, No Quarter, Going To California, Immigrant Song. The bands' music is on the mark. If there wasn't commentary between songs, play Ramble On, Immigrant Song, Going To California, to Zep fans and see if they can detect the difference, I could not hear a difference from the real thing. It takes a lot of moxy to perform Stairway, and it is the final song on the CD. The songs that I didn't think hit the mark were D'yer Maker and All My Love. But 12 out of 14 are great recordings. This is the best Zep tribute CD I have heard, bar none. Purists may not like this, but this CD is a good addition to your Led Zeppelin collection. There is a Whole Lotta Led here.

Great White-'Great Zeppelin-Tribute- L. Zeppelin'(Cleopatra),

Here's something you don't see everyday.A band doing a live full-length concert covering fourteen songs of ANOTHER band.Actually,'Great Zeppelin' is pretty decent. It was recorded in late 1996 in Santa Ana,CA.Vocalist Jack Russell and crew rip it up on classic Zeppelin cuts like the opener "In The Light","Ramble On","Tangerine","Thank You","D'Yer Maker","Immigrant Song" and "When The Levee Breaks".Great White must have a lot of confidence.I say that because they close with "Stairway To Heaven".Most bands wouldn't even attempt that.Would make a nice gift.

Like no other Tribute you'll ever hear!,

Being a lifelong Zeppelin fan and fortunate enough to have seen them in the 74-75 timeframe, I think I qualify as a purist and admirer of all things Zeppelin. (past, present and future). Great White's tribute to Zeppelin blew me away! All too often I hear tribute bands change around the tune to compensate for shortcomings or make it too much about them.
Great White did the rarity. They performed a live version of Zeppelin songs as you wish Zep did. Rather than the bloated and hard to listen to "Song Remains the Same" recording, just put this on and sit back. You won't be disappointed. I just wish the CD contained the MTV unplugged Great White rendition of "Babe, I'm gonna leave you", and a new recording of "That's The Way", then everything would be complete. If Jack Russell reads this. Do us Great White and Zeppelin fans a favor and do another record with more Led Zeppelin tunes.

I grew up listening to Led Zeppelin and I must say I was so impressed on a job well done. Thanks GW for playing Led songs in tune and on key. Not even they themselves could play their own songs Live and in tune.. No harm intended to Led Zeppelin.. I wish there was a GW cover band out there.....Great CD, Buy it..

First and foremost I never thought Led Zeppelin were the "Gods" of Rock and Roll and the only Zep Cd I own is IV. If you are a diehard Zep fan and are gonna complain about this Tribute and yes I said Tribute don't bother buying this cd.
But if you can appreciate the fact that another band loves Zep and wanted to pay them respect then buy it up and prepare to be blown away ! Great White does not "Cover" these tunes because they stay true to the same way Zep did them. Great White is a great band and I have everything they have done and I'm proud they did this tribute because it takes some big balls to Tribute to the mighty Zep and I'm sure they took alot of flak but I bet you the remaining members of Zep were thrilled ! My faves on ths cd are When The Levee Breaks,Going To California,Dyer Maker. Great versions that are true to Zep is just awesome ! Just remember that this is a tribute and as with any tribute don't buy it if your expecting Robert Plant on here.

... This CD is incredible! Not only is it jam packed with Zep songs that even Zep never did live, they sound awesome! I know Great White was a Zeppelin Tribute band prior to their signing. Now the real fans get to see just why they got that contract!

THE BEST TRIBUTE YOU'LL EVER HEAR BUT....,
By Ace Jones (Singapore) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Great Zeppelin: Tribute to Led Zeppelin (Audio CD)
It's nice to hear live renditions of In the Light, When the Levee Breaks and D'yer Maker - songs that Zep didn't really attempt or do live. It just reminds one of the incredible Zep catalogue that never made it to the stage. The odd thing about this performance is how close it sounds to the studio recording generally, bar a few bum notes from the guitar now and then.Great White's singer Jack Russell sounds uncannily like Robert Plant and would probably take home the award for best Led Zep soundalike singer. He seems able to encapsulate the different stages of Plant's voice. While this is a very good recording, the one shortcoming is the note-for-note replication of Zep's songs, which though in itself is a considerable achievement, could have done with some improvisation or input from the band. It's almost unadventurous in that aspect - ie. Zep would have tried to improvise on its own material. In that sense, the guys should have had more fun with it - imagination wise, though we can't fault their performance. "Going to California" sounds like the album recording - down to the mix...seen live, it's flattering - on the album, it's kind of too straight. But this is a good effort by Great White. One thing missing is their great rendition of "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You."

This goes out to anyone who said that Great White "copied" Led Zep with this cd. F*CKING DUH!!! What the hell do you think a cover IS???? If you want to hear Zep all tweaked out with special detail look for a REMAKE. Great White did a damn good job coverin' these Zeppelin tunes...better job than anyone else i have ever heard. I'd be more pissed if they did try to remake them, but all they did was show tribute to Zep, and did a damn good job.

The Songs Don't Remain The Same,
By A Customer
This review is from: Great Zeppelin: Tribute to Led Zeppelin (Audio CD)
Great White has acomplished what Page/Plant, Coverdale/Page and the Zeppelin-wannabe of the week couldn't pull off: to play Zeppelin songs with respect, creativity and perfect playing. Jack Russell sonds so much like Robert Plant that is kindda scary, while Kendall out-plays Page in all of the songs. Not only for Great White fans (anyone remembers their amazing version of "Babe, I'm gonna leave you"?), but for music lovers everywhere! It might sound like a blasphemy to many but Zep never sounded like this on record...
