Goldstone is the rare author who knows how to write for children without ever condescending to them. This book is fun and smart. It is one of my children's favorite reads, though I doubt they realize how many tricky concepts this book gets them to think about and enjoy using. Every home, library and school should have a copy - it is an invaluable tool and a book to read a great, great number of times.

This book was on my grandson's wish list as he is a very bright first-grader. Upon receiving the book I looked through it and was intrigued at the photographs and the method taught to estimate quantities. The book shows a grid (10 x 10) and by counting the contents of any one grid portion, one can estimate the total number of objects shown. He loves it. The book delivers on the estimations it aims to teach.
