5.0 out of 5 stars A "great" album indeed!
Lorrie Morgan's album GREATER NEED is great indeed, it has some of the most memorable songs from her entire career. Take the popular single "Good As I Was To You" - a tragic tale about a man cheating on his lover, with another woman. Lorrie delivers this song with enough emotion that it sends chills up your spine. Or the popular duet with then husband Jon...

1.0 out of 5 stars No new songs.
I had expected to hear new songs sung in the sultry voice and excellent english she has used this year. Instead, the music was obviously recorded long ago in the somewhat screeching voice she used before. Please ask her to record some new songs in the beautiful voice she uses this year.

Or the popular duet with then husband Jon Randall, on "By My Side", which is a beautiful love song. Other great songs include the lead song "Soldier of Love", which is a song which Lorrie seems to sink her teeth into. Or the beautiful title track, which deserved to be a single. Other highlights include "Steppin Stones" (with Vince Gill and Travis Tritt), "I Can Buy My Own Roses" and more! Give this one a try, its a great album by a talented, underrated country singer!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great CD, June 23, 1999

I bought this CD at first because of the song "Good As I Was To You". My 5 year relationship ended because of the other woman. Now I listen to all of the songs, they all hit home when you listen to them. Lorrie brings out life in her songs and helps you get through your problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album!!!, April 26, 2004
This review is from: Greater Need (Audio CD)
This is one of my favorites from Lorrie Morgan. She has an amazing voice that is very distinct, and you can tell she is really in these songs. She brings out so much emotion to whatever the songs call her to. I really like the sentimental ballad "I Can Buy My Own Roses". The title track is another great ballad too. But who could forget "Good As I Was To You". This is classic Lorrie, a song where she finds out her lover is seeing someone else and confronts them. The video was unforgettable with her confronting them in the restaurant, watching them from the rainy window. There's a nice duet with her then-husband Jon Randall on "By My Side" which was the other hit from the album. Other highlights include "Soldier Of Love", "I Just Might Be", "Reading My Heart", "Back Among The Living" and "She Walked Beside The Wagon". Check it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great songs, January 17, 2001
This review is from: Greater Need (Audio CD)
Lorrie is great at ballads and songs with attitude, and you will get both on this album. Lorrie's voice can be both strong and vulnerable, and she brings great emotion to these songs. This is very much an album which speaks to women. In fact, in the booklet she dedicates this album to all women who have loved, lost, married, widowed, mothers and lovers and who still are little girls at heart. On "Steppin' Stones" she sings with Vince Gill and Travis Tritt and "By my side" she duets with Jon Randall. "She walked beside the wagon" is a song about a strong pioneer woman as well as Jackie Kennedy and she adds a sweet personal verse to the song in which her son Jesse sings the chorus. It is so touching. This is a beautiful album and highly recommended.

I love Lorrie Morgan-and I have most of CDs-her record career is spotty because of bad song choices & bad producers. But when the right song, right producer come together the result is totally magical. To that end listen to " By My Side " but especially check out " She Walked Beside The Wagon "- and I think the tears will be rolling down your eyes.To me Lorrie Morgan has/had the best country/pop voice of all time-with Martina right behind her!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD, December 14, 2005
This review is from: Greater Need (Audio CD)
Reviewer, Glen Lyndon Dodds, Sunderland, England.

"Greater Need" is a first-rate country album that kicks off in style with "Soldier of Love", one of several up-tempo tracks featured on this impressive CD. In general, the other songs are either good or outstanding and strong melodically.

The quality of musicianship is also high. For instance, Dan Huff provides several short but appealing guitar solos. Moreover, the album is well produced.

Above all, Lorrie's vocals enhance "Greater Need". She has a good voice and can interpret lyrics very well. This is especially true of the slower, reflective tracks such as "I Can Buy My Own Roses", "Greater Need", "Back Among The Living" and "Good As I Was To You". It is also true of "By My Side", a superb duet with Jon Randall and one of the best duets I have ever heard.

"Greater Need" ranks among my favourite albums (which include material by Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, Martina McBride and Patty Loveless) and will no doubt be enjoyed by anyone who loves first-class country songs well performed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Lorrie, May 9, 2001
This review is from: Greater Need (Audio CD)
Greater Need is probably my favorite Lorrie Morgan album. There are some great songs here. Soldier of Love is a great album starter, would of made a great single for country radio. I Just Might Be is a little tough, but its a nice song. Greater Need is a beautiful ballad, one you will love as it comes from Lorrie's heart. Steppin Stones is a really upbeat country tune with Travis Tritt and Vince Gill singing on it as well, they really kick it up. By My Side is a nice duet with her then husband Jon Randall. Good as I Was to You was the big hit from this album, along with By My Side, she sings it like no one else could. She Walked Beside The Wagon just touches your heart like no other song could, Lorrie brings that magic touch to the songs with her golden voice. A must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Songs that can heal..., May 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Greater Need (Audio CD)
I bought this CD mostly because of the song "Good as I was to You". At the time, I was separated from my husband of 15 years, after he left me for the "other woman", so this song really hit a nerve! But after listening to the rest of the songs, my real favorite is "Back Among the Living". If you are going through a divorce or a devastating break-up this song is for you. Lorrie comes through to tell us that That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Thanks Lorrie.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Lorrie Morgan Album!, October 17, 2009
This review is from: Greater Need (Audio CD)
Greater Need is easily my personal favorite of Lorrie's.Every song is a gem.
Produced by the fantastic James Stroud, she kicks things off with the very catchy uptempo Soldier Of Love which Alison Krauss provides the backing vocals on.Other special guests include Vince Gill and Travis Tritt on Steppin' Stones and Jon Randall duets with Lorrie on the lovely ballad By My Side.
Other gorgeous ballads are I Can Buy My Own Roses,Good As I Was To You and She Walked Beside The Wagon.
All in all a superb collection of songs from one of country music's finest. You'll fall in love with this album, highly recommended!
