5.0 out of 5 stars Raw garage punk Buffalo style, September 30, 2004
This review is from: Greater Than Ever (Audio CD)
If ever there was a band that has the potential to be the next great band, that band should be the Baseball Furies. Where the name comes from, I have no clue, but the music is spawned deep in the clubs and bars of the frozen wastelands of Buffalo NY. These guys have since relocated to Chicago, and are still spewing and reveling in the blue collar stripped-down style that has been popularized (albeit in a more convoluted form) by the newer garage bands Like the White Stripes. One listen and your hooked. The songs are short, sweaty and full of grit. The lyrics oscillate between dry cynicism and sharp, biting criticism - and don't forget a healthy dose of humor. The music cannot be compared to any specific genre. There are tinges of punk (Iggy pop, the Descendents), garage (New York Dolls and Stiff little Fingers), and maybe a tiny trace of hardcore(gorilla biscuits) for good measure. I have honestly heard nohing else like it. This is originality in its rawest and most raucous form. The highlight tracks are Breakdown, and Arch Enemy. If you are reading this, obviously you have heard of the Baseball Furies, and I am preaching to the choir, but if not - give this disc a try and I'll bet it doesn't leave your cd player for weeks!

This one of the best releases in the last few years. It competes with the Clone Defects, White Stripes, and other Detroit rock and roll. Get this as soon as possible. Listen to Arch Enemy at Big Neck website and you'll see what I mean

The late 70's gang movie 'The Warriors'. Baseball Furies was a gang in the movie. Is this CD any good? I haven't a clue. That's what I'm trying to find out!!
