From the tone of some of the other reviews, it's apparent that the reviewers didn't check the publication date of this book -- written LOOOONG before Leo and Kate jumped on board the "Titanic" and made a little movie. When I read the book all those years ago, I didn't know much about the "Titanic" or the historical details that may be inaccurate in this novel, so in fairness perhaps that's why my enjoyment wasn't diminished at all. The sinking of the ship occurs very early in the book, and the reason for that is that it is a story about how this disaster affected one family long-term. I found Edwina to be a very realistic character -- more realistic than most of Ms. Steel's heroines. She was concerned with keeping the family together and due to the selfishness of her mother (going down with the ship and her husband), she is forced to grow up too soon and be a mother to 5 children. She does the best that she can but they are only children for so long -- then they grow up and want to live their lives independently, leaving Edwina feeling abandoned and proud at the same time, and realizing that it is finally "her time" to live life. I've read this several times and I always enjoy it.

This was my first Danielle Steel novel I read, however, having read some of the negative reviews it recieved, I would have to disagree. I decided to read this book not because I was curious about Ms. Steel, but because I am a Titanic freak, and when I heard that she had written a book about the famous ship disaster, I immediately ran out and bought it. At first I was disappointed, because the actual ship disaster happened before I was through 1/4 of the book, and other Titanic books I have read in the past have depicted the entire tragety from cover to cover, but I really admired Edwina for selflessly giving up her personal happiness to raise her five brothers and sisters. I think Danielle Steel tried to depict Edwina's mother as a heroine for romanticly going down on the ship with her husband, but I found her to be quite selfish for that! She left behind 6 children, the youngest being only two years old! Although I don't have children of my own, I am one of those people who believe that one's children should be their top priority, and when given the chance to live, you should jump at it! Overall, this book had everything: you will laugh out loud, cry out loud, and most of all, you won't be able to put it down!

Perhaps I've been reading too many DS books, and this is why reading No Greater Love palls, because the book has lifeless characters and a plodding storyline. I will finish this book, but it's been tough sledding as No Greater Love has lots of promise but is in need of tighter, pithy writing. Also, the characters needed more depth so each one could grab the writer's heart and imagination.

This book was a huge disapointment. I kept looking at the cover to because I couldn't believe Danielle Steel actually wrote this. I still think someone might have slipped a book written by a twelve year old between the covers. I literally had to force myself to finish it with the hope that it would get better. It never did. Dull, boring, dull. Go someplace else it you want entertainment. You won't find it here.

This is without a doubt D.S. most boring novel of all!!! Very hard to follow, it tells way too much about the Titanic. If I wanted to know about the Titanic, I'll get the real book!

This book was so poorly written I hardly know where to begin. It was all I could do to force myself to finish it. The titanic information was sketchy at best (as well as inaccurate). It was so obviously stamped throughout the first few chapters of the book as if to remind the reader that it was set on the Titanic....all right already we remember that. The characters were one dimensional and completely unrealistic. They were hardly even likable so that it was hard to care what happened to them. In fact the writing was so bad that by half way through the book I wished that they had all gone down with the ship and spared me the last 300 pages. Last but not least the message sent by the book is that morals and values about running away with scumbuckets and sleeping with married men who make it clear that it is just a one night stand is not wrong....if you have had enough tragedy in your life to justify behaving so shabbily. Two thumbs down....I'd give more but I only have two....don't waste your time reading this DRIVEL. I'm sorry I did

of writing the same story over and over and over and over and over again. The only thing that changes are the years and the names of the characters.

this was my first danielle steele book and i have been hooked
every since. it starts out with a loving husband and wife and
their six kids ranging from 20 to 2 years of age. they decide
to book a passage on the titanic. as the ship is going down, the
children all make it to life boats but they are not allowing the
men anywhere near them. the wife decides that her oldest daughter
can take care of the children but she refuses to have a life without her husband so they both go down with the ship. needless
to say the oldest daughter forgoes marriage and love to raise her
five sibling in a heartrending story that only danielle steele
can bring so much reality to. this is a must read if you never
read any of her other ones. this is a true standout of all the book i have read in my many years of being a bookworm.

Danielle Steel breaks away from her cookie cutter books and writes a very engrossing story of a girl who survives the sinking of the Titanic and must now care for her younger brothers and sisters since both of her parents perished with the Titanic. Heartbreaking right at the beginning but does get happier as the book progresses.

This is the sixth Danielle Steel novel I have read. I can only handle one or two a year since they all seem to be very much the same, even though they are enjoyable and are page-turners. However, No Greater Love is by far the weakest and slowest one I have read. Except for the first one hundred pages and the last fifty it really isn't all that interesting and actually the "San Fransisco years" which is the bulk of the novel are just plain boring. Edwina makes an okay heroine, but Alexis is a pain from the start to the finish and I couldn't stand her character. Overall, it's a decent Steel novel--not her best, but I'm sure not her worst either.
