5.0 out of 5 stars Another anthology? Third times the charm!
Fans of Belinda Carlisle have eagerly awaited for new music since 1997's Woman and a Man album. With this, her third greatest hits complilation, fans will have to settle for three new tracks and a bonus disc of her hits remixed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Missing Songs
Great Cds, but the songs Mad about You and I Feel the Magic are excluded from this package. They were hits too.

Fans of Belinda Carlisle have eagerly awaited for new music since 1997's Woman and a Man album. With this, her third greatest hits complilation, fans will have to settle for three new tracks and a bonus disc of her hits remixed.

Pulling tracks from 1987 through (1986's self-titled debut was released on IRS records and they own the rights exclusively) 1997 the disc showcases Belinda's style changes, music changes and vocal changes over this decade.

Starting with her biggest single to date (Heaven) and ending with her newest (All God's Children), Place on Earth takes you on a journey through some of Belinda's most overlooked works. Included are the staples, Heaven, I Get Weak, Circle in the Sand, Leave a Light On, but also included are those that didn't garner that much attention on RR, California, Always Breaking My Heart, Big Scary Animal, and Live Your Life Be Free.

The new tracks take their cues from today's new wave of pop. Feels Like I've Known You Forever is a quiet love song that really resonates in you. All God's Children is the first single (and it stalled within the top 40 I do believe) although I believe that the first single should have been A Prayer for Everyone. This song could have been (or be) a killer dance remix. With today's hottest remixers this song could have brought Belinda back (much like it did for Cher).

Disc 2 is the bonus in this collection and includes remixes to some of Belinda's biggest hits. A funky techno remix of Live Your Life is included as well as rare tracks such as The Air You Breathe and Only a Dream. Also included is the smash remix of Summer Rain.

I think overall fans won't be disappointed. With new Carlisle material coming out within the next year, new Go-Go's material in the works as well, fans will see and hear more of Carlisle than they have in a long time.

Although Carlisle is much admired and appreciated overseas perhaps this collection can jumpstart her popularity here in the states. Carlisle still remains one of Amercia's undiscovered gems and truly never looked at with the sincerity she deserved and deserves. We can all say a prayer on that one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Place On Earth More Like Heaven, March 9, 2002
By
Chris S. "cscotts" (atlanta, ga United States) - See all my reviews
Though her solo career stateside floundered disastrously in the early nineties,Belinda Carlisle continued to have substantial success in the UK, where this compilation cropped up a couple of years ago. PLACE ON EARTH remains the most definitive gathering of her chart singles to date, with the only major flub being the omission of her first solo hit 'Mad About You'. Unlike alot of music from the eighties, much of Carlisle's catalog remains surprisingly fresh, particularly the Bon Jovi-like power pop of 'Heaven Is A Place On Earth' and 'Leave A Light On'. And though she made the occasional misstep--the latin-influenced 'La Luna'placed her waaay out of her element--she made up for it with such new-wave thrillers as 'Do You Feel Like I Feel' and jangly pop-rockers like the criminally catchy 'Big Scary Animal'.Among the three new tracks, the gently rocking Europop of 'Feels Like I've Known You Forever' reaffirms her status as a highly underrated vocalist, and 'All Gods'Children' places her in Cher/'Believe' territory--she sounds surprisingly at ease with this first-rate(and vocally unenhanced)dance anthem. For those who thought her career began and ended with HEAVEN ON EARTH, you'd be well-advised to seek out this collection, or any of her nineties solo records(which actually eclipsed her eighties output by miles).

5.0 out of 5 stars A Collection That Truly Lives Up To Its Name, June 4, 2000
By A Customer
Belinda Carlisle, is one of the most Underrated artist of our generation, Besides being the lead singer on one of the most important bands in musical history, her solo career has been equally if not superior. This Greatest Hits collection features her best known work plus some unknown tracks that show her underappriciated talent. Its sad though that her hits from her first solo album were excluded. The bonus remix cd is strictly for fans. Very good mixes but compared to today's sound they sound old and dated. but worth having just for nostalgia value. if your a Belinda fan, a go gos fan or just looking for something that youve overlooked the first time you ever heard Belinda carlisle, I suggest you get this album. Its worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars Summer feeling!, July 29, 2006
This is a record with wonderful pop/rock songs performed by one of the most beutiful voices within the genre. Songs like Heaven is a place on earth, La Luna, Circles in the Sand and I get Weak all remind us of the glory days of the eighties and fills us with the summer feeling. High choruses, well performed music and the world class voice of the beutiful Belinda Carlisle makes this music fit for all kinds of events. The second CD also includes excellent dance versions of Heaven is a place on earth, I get weak, Circles in the sand, as well as some other hits from the first CD. Highly recommended if you like the voice of Belinda! But who doesn't?

5.0 out of 5 stars Fall Under Belinda's Spell Again..., August 15, 2002
By
The ultimate compilation from the ultimate diva. Belinda's unique breed of pop has provided more timeless classics than can be included on a CD...But this is a pretty damn good compilation. Beginning with her biggest hit to date, and ending with her newest (the fantastic All God's Children), A Place on Earth is the penultimate Belinda collection. A great starting place for newcomers, and a must have for any Belinda fan. Featuring three great new songs that showcase for any doubters that Belinda still does have what it takes. Let Belinda show you once again that Heaven is a Place on Earth, and prepare to be mesmerised by this American beauty who still sounds every bit as good as she looks.

2.0 out of 5 stars OVER PRICED CD, March 29, 2005
I cannot believe ANYONE could give give this CD 4 and 5 stars WITHOUT "Mad About You". And the biggest ripoff, is you cannot get "In Our Wildest Dreams" (From Mannequin) anywhere. Those are my two favorite Belinda songs, and until they come up with a CD that has "In Our Wildest Dreams", I will stick to the single disk. Simply put this is an over priced CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Berlinda Carlisle..., January 30, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this collection strictly for the "Bonus" disc! My all time favorite song by Ms. Carlisle is "Circles in the Sand." On the bonus Cd, it's over seven minutes (and a very good mix, for once!). Don't get me wrong, the entire collection is very good. A good collection for the money. Get your copy and enjoy! Five stars...

Updated 03-23-2007: I Paid $24/US for the disk in Jan. 2006 (just an FYI!)

5.0 out of 5 stars It may be missing Mad About You, but this is great stuff !, March 4, 2004

Jeffrey D. Currier (Everett, Washington United States) - See all my reviews
Having followed Belinda Carlisle from her Go-Go days to solo career and back to the Go-Go's and now this album, one thing remains: Belinda has the most powerful, expressive voice of any female pop vocalist. This collection is not available in the United States so it was an awesome treat to hear a new much more upbeat pressing of (We Want) The Same thing, as well as the 3 new songs on this album. All God's Children is the happiest sounding Carlisle ever! A Prayer For Everyone is another gem...not as cheery as All God's Children but the message is the same and having been produced by the Guru's who did Believe for cher, this track too is very very worthwile. BUY THIS album!! You will NOT regret it. The Bonus CD of remixes is good the 2 B sides should have been put on to the Live Your Life Be Free album but including them on this collection is good too.
