4.0 out of 5 stars An ambitious plan, but it could be life-changing November 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
When the author offered me a copy of The Greatest Book of All Time in exchange for an honest review, I saw the words "bucket list" in the subtitle and immediately thought of the 2007 film "The Bucket List," where two men with terminal cancer who had only one year to live went on a road trip with a wish list of things to do before they "kicked the bucket." That's not the kind of bucket list the author is referring to, although there is some similarity. The premise of The Greatest Book of All Time is: What would you want to do this year if this was going to be the last year of your life? You could call it a self-help book, but it's much more than that. "Personal growth" or "personal transformation" would be more accurate. I've read several self-help books, and some them were quite good, but none of them were as comprehensive as The Greatest Book of All Time.

For most readers, following the book's 52-week plan would require a total makeover in body, mind, and outlook on life. This isn't a casual program. It would require a total commitment in order to benefit fully from the program. The author recommends that you do this with other friends or associates, even your spouse, to ensure the support that you'll need to stay with it. Additional support is provided at the author's website, with printed materials plus audio and video clips.

In the movie "The Bucket List," the idea was to do everything the two men always wanted to do so they could die happy. In the "Living the Last Year of Your Life" program, the idea is to prepare yourself for success for the remainder of your life. Will the program work? I can't speak from personal experience, but every segment of the program appears to be an essential element in reshaping your life for success.

I have to add that the book is not some dry recitation of step-by-step procedures. There are enough personal anecdotes by the author to be a bit memoir-ish, but these added human interest to the book, and in most cases, were used to help illustrate a point.

I'm unsure as to the Amazon rating to give the book. I was very impressed with the ideas in the book, but having never attempted such a comprehensive, life-changing program, I have no way of knowing how successful the "bucket list" approach would be. For that reason, I'm giving it four stars, which by my own standards is a book well worth reading.

Technical Notes: Each chapter has links to audio and video files associated with the chapter. I started reading The Greatest Book of All Time on my Kindle Paperwhite (PW), but the PW has no audio output capability, so it was not possible to play the audio files on the PW, nor would the video files run. I then pushed the book file to my Kindle Fire HD, where the audio and video files ran okay, except for a few video files that required Adobe Flash. If you're going to read the book on an e-Ink device, plan on running the audio and video files on a PC.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too self-promotional March 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I normally wouldn't bother reviewing this book because self-help books are helpful for some and not for others. To each his own. I downloaded it when it was offered for free out of curiosity, but I wanted to warn anyone who is thinking about paying $90 for this that it is quite self-promotional. I was turned off from the start by the author's continual references to himself. It's like going to a party and meeting someone who is very optimistic and positive...about himself. If you are attracted to that kind of person, you may be inspired by Arthur. I would rather read an autobiography by a famous person I admire.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Modernized, electronically compatible Bucket List September 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Take a look at the reactions from the various reviewers of this book by Clint Arthur and learn a lot about the psychological climate of today. The title of the book sounds like the old-fashion Medicine Man coming wheeling into town with the elixir of life, the topic of the book is yet another self help book (and who doesn't need a boost right now?), and the quality of paper and layout of the words versus images versus lists is a bit on the crude side. So if all of that is negative stuff and if it drives you crazy, then this book is not for you.

HOWEVER, get past the hoopla and find in this book a conversation with a man who has indeed faced that question `What if this were the last year of your life?' And what would you do if it were? If you get on board with Clint Arthur then likely you will catch his infectious spirit and take the ride through to the end.

Arthur offers a week by week journey through one full year, each week being devoted to a single principle - such as `Feel the joy of truly loving other people,' Develop a personal vision for your life', `Train your brain for success,' `Unclutter your life & eliminate procrastination, `Perfect your management skills', `Become a true leader', and each of these attributes has a lesson and an audio or visual attachment to make clear what Arthur is teaching. The last portion of the book is into spiritual matters, making amends to all people you have injured, writing a last will and testament, and understanding the meaning of life. And yes, if you make it past that `last year', then there are instructions on creating `a vision and plan for your ideal life in 5 years time'. Everything has a checklist and a link to click to get into the author's online presence.

Clint Arthur sums it up with the word A.L.I.V.E.: Awareness that this is YOUR TIME to get into action and follow your heart, Let go of the past , forgive yourself and forgive those who have hurt you, Inspire yourself with exciting goals and plans for your future, Visualize how to make your goals a reality, and Energize your self with good food, rest, exercise, and positive mental energy.

So if you have taken care of all that then you'll probably pass on this book. But if you HAVEN'T taken care of all that, the Clint Arthur is a fine coach and may be just about the most pragmatically oriented Bucket List commander on the market today. Give it a whirl - you just may grow. Grady Harp, September 12
