Marvin Gaye may be the greatest voice of Soul music. This CD provides an interesting if limited selection of his duets with several of his Motown female colleagues.

Just so-so. If you want a lot of Marvin Gaye songs you've probably never heard sung with females you've probably never heard of, this is it.

Marvin Gaye may be the greatest voice of Soul music. This CD provides an interesting if limited selection of his duets with several of his Motown female colleagues.

Philadelphian Tammi Terrell had a beautiful, soulful voice that blended perfectly with Marvin Gaye's voice. "You're All I Need To Get By" is a truly gorgeous song, filled with love, longing, and soul at its finest. The song has a remarkable pulse and energy; both singers shine and soar. Tammi's life was tragically cut short; she died of brain cancer at the age of 24.

Kim Weston paired with Marvin to record one of my all time favorite songs- "It Takes Two." This upbeat, joyous duet is one of Motown's finest moments. When Marvin and Kim harmonize, without words, their "oohs" are sheer magic.

The powerful voice of Mary Wells (famous for "My Guy") is a great counterpoint to Marvin's smooth power. "Once Upon A Time," recorded in 1964, is an interesting song with a cha-cha beat.

If you are not familiar with Marvin's duets, this CD is a good place to start. I also suggest the CDs Marvin Gaye & His Girls; The Complete Duets (Marvin & Tammi); Together/Take Two (Marvin & Kim); and Diana & Marvin.
