Through his series of NBC documentaries,and his best-selling books, Tom Brokaw reminded us all of the trial, tribulations and sacrifices made by the generation that got the U.S. through the Great Depression and World War Two. Here for the first time in one DVD collection, are all three of Brokaw's "Greatest Generation" documentaries -- companions to his books that bring the emotional power of video to his stories of the average Americans who waged America's toughest battles. Brokaw brings his own personal integrity to every frame, and develops an intimate relationship with his subjects -- this allows him to delve deeply into not just war stories, but into the ways these men were changed when they came back home. Each of the three main features weaves beautifully shot interviews and contemporary scenes with remarkable archival footage of the war. This three-disc set is crammed with extras, interviews with veterans and POW camp survivors -- who describe in unforgettable details their experience in war, and their ordeals upon returning to the US. This is really a landmark collection, a must-have for any student of history, and anyone who appreciates the accomplishments of "The Greatest Generation."

I received the 3 DVD package by Tom Brokaw, The Greatest Generation. I was very happy with the speed with which it arrived at my home. The cellophane was still on the package as though it were brand new right off the store shelf. Can't for get that the reason I purchased this 3 DVD package was the price, it was just what I wanted to pay for it. thanks. Doug

If you like Tom Brokaw, you will like this. His book is good, but seeing him do an interview or talking is really where he has always shined.

This DVD series is well organized and Brokaw does a great job in presenting the lives and personal stories of the people involved. Having had a father and several other relatives in WWII, I really appreciated the time and personalization this DVD series allows the viewer to experience. It really was very finely edited and put together. It reminded me of why I am so glad my father and others like him went to war when they were called without hesitation. It is a very touching, sensitively done tribute to all who were involved in World War II.

The WWII military personnel and their families did not choose to go through the Depression, nor did they choose to start and participate in the Great War. Rather,the events chose them, as the times choose us all. We do not select our gender, our nationality, our skin color, our DNA or most of the other important factors that affect our lives. Thus, I would quibble a bit that this group was the Greatest Generation. So are they all.

That said, this is a fine series about the people who experienced one of the most eventful eras in our history, along with the American Revolution and the Civil War periods. Out of those eras the country became stronger--and lost, sadly, people who might have contributed much more. The stories shown here are very effective and affecting. Were the participants heroes? Many men who received the highest medals say no--that they were doing these deeds because they were afraid not to do them. After all, no one hopes to be a coward. There is great sadness in all this and much reason to have our convictions restored in the basic goodness of humans.

This is an excellent overview of the soldiers that served America during WWII.

I got the audio books and listened to it at work. It was a pretty eye opening perspective to listen how young people came out of the depression, went to war and came home to build families, companies and their lives.

It arrived in good shape. Haven't had time to view it. Should be fine

Even though it took a long time to be delivered I received the product and it was what we expected.
