4.0 out of 5 stars Don't let the title fool you!
Don't let the title of this video fool you! It does not only include the story of the Lion's Den but takes Daniel from the time of his captivity and includes many stories from his life and the Book of Daniel. Nebuchadnezzar's dream, the writing on the wall, etc.
This video was very helpful in illustrating the study of the book of Daniel for my Sunday School...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not too painful
The animation and story are not bad, but the kids who pops in from time to time to sing a goofy song takes away from at least my family's enjoyment. For the pirce it's not bad...

This video was very helpful in illustrating the study of the book of Daniel for my Sunday School class. Even though it is animated, some scenes may be somewhat scarey for very small children (preschool) but it is an accurate depiction of the Bible.

5.0 out of 5 stars We enjoyed this, November 9, 2009

This review is from: Greatest Heroes and Legends of the Bible: Daniel and the Lion's Den (DVD)
We enjoyed this at our house, my wife and I and our 13 year old son. The animated show begins with a live action introduction by Charlton Heston, who is the host for this whole biblical animated series. Frankly, there are not a lot of shows out there that visualize in any form the Book of Daniel from the Old Testament of the Bible. And we really wanted to see it in a visual form. While the producers did change some things here and there to move the story along and due to time limits, there are some great segments from the Book of Daniel included. It begins with the capture of Daniel and other young boys of Israel by the Babylonians, shows their tutoring and service to the King as they grow older. It relates how they stayed true to their faith despite great pressure in a foreign land.

Daniel especially is undermined by government officials that are jealous of his great administrative skills. They try to have him killed for his faith, which he never denies. The movie shows the an abbreviated version of Daniel's interpretation of King Nebuchadnezzar's dream. It shows the appearance of the mysterious hand on the wall, and Daniel's interpretation of the strange writing for King Darius. It shows the Median/Persian king selecting Daniel to counsel him as well. And of course it shows Daniel being sent to the lions den, due to scheming by others when Daniel refuses to renounce his faith.
Now for some parents, you may be concerned over incidents where the king has advisers put to death who tried to undermine Daniel, and Daniel does not object. It was OK with us as our boy is older. The film is 50 minutes in length.

As for bible teaching, you may have to take some notes and correct a few liberties taken with the text, in a family discussion after the show as we did. But the message of the scripture gets through, the plot and animation are interesting and never boring. Also from this series we have seen David & Goliath, and Joshua and the Battle of Jericho, they are also well done.

If you watch this series and are interested in what other companies are producing in bible animation, also check out a series produced in England for the BBC, title "Testament, the Bible in Animation", available at Amazon.com

4.0 out of 5 stars Great value, July 22, 2005

You can't go wrong with this when the price is so low. The animation quality is like that typically seen in basic Saturday morning cartoons, which is good enough for kids. What I like is that all the videos in this series give all the important details of the story, rather than giving a shallow, watered-down version as is usually the case in children's stories. These will entertain preschoolers up through junior high and the script is very closely based on the scriptural account. The only reason I didn't give this series a 5 is that each video has a hokey song that could definitely have been left out, but for such a low price and good script, I can overlook that.

This is something the kids love to watch over and over. The story is quite captivating, not slow or fast, just great! The values taught in it are what makes it worth purchasing!!

This movie is certainly cheesy to the mind of the adult, but to the child ages 1yr to 4yrs, it is a great and entertaining film! The story is quite accurate with very little reference to Charleston Heston, whose name merely helps to "sell" the film. A decent movie for bible-conscious parents. =-)

I ordered severeal of these to show to my kids. As we read each story I wanted to show them the movie behind it. The kids enjoyed these very much and at a inexpensive cost, it is definitely worth it. It's very engaging and can allow for much interaction with the kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accurate Stories from the Bible, October 1, 2011

This review is from: Greatest Heroes and Legends of the Bible: Daniel and the Lion's Den (DVD)
We bought a bunch of these animated movies to reinforce what we learn in our non-denominational church. The kids relate what they see in the movies to what they learn in Sunday school, and it helps them to bring the stories together in their mind. We plan on adding to our collection again this Christmas.
