This picks up the Kinks greatest hits very nicely
If you combine this set with the Ultimate Collection you wil have a very very nice Kinks collection. The DVD has been OOP for a while, so its inclusion here makes a good bonus.

The Collection to get for the Kink's 1970's to mid 80's hits,

The Kinks / Greatest Hits 1970 - 1986 (2 CD's and 1 DVD): This is not a new compilation of the kinks but a repackaging of two previously released hits CDs plus a previously released concert DVD. The First repackaged hits CD included here is the "Celluloid Heroes - The Kink's Greatest" which covered the early to mid 1970's hits. The second previously released CD included here is the "Come Dancing With The Kinks - The Best of The Kinks 1977-1986" CD. These two older hits CDs covered the years so well that it is perfectly understandable that they would simply put these together rather than make a new track list that would have included all this anyway. The previous released DVD that is included here is the fine "One For The Road" concert movie. Overall, this set covers all their great songs of that period and is extremely enjoyable. This set gets Five Stars. As good as this set is, it does not cover the great early period of The Kinks and I suggest getting the "The Kinks: The Ultimate Collection" CD set which covers those early hits most admirably. Enjoy.

Watch out: if you want the complete 1977 or so version of Kinks Greatest Celluloid Heroes, this isn't it. The original cover art shown on this CD is deceptive.I thought I was getting the complete KGCHeroes, but this version is missing four songs from the LP, two of which, Holiday and Sitting in My Hotel, are winners. I had a heck of time returning this to Barnes and Noble -- really put up a stink with manager -- but got my money back. I'll continue to play my LP now. Buyer beware: check out CD and track listings before you buy. You shouldn't have to when the CD shows original cover from 70s LP. But ...

Rarely does anyone buy a greatest hits double-album collection for the recent tunes as much as the older classics, but the Kinks satisfy on both entries. Everyone said Ray Davies' vanguard band of the British Invasion of the late 60s lost its edge after he married/procreated with Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde, and while that may be true in terms of his mega-hits volume I think he's simply morphed into new and trendy musical incarnations. The same singalong crowd-pleasing ebullience we heard in Lola from 1970 is there in the later tunes, like the disco hit Superman with comment on languid, post-Imperial UK, and in the ska tune Come Dancing. Like the latter, we hear his nostalgic yearning for halcyon days as expected in post-age-50 rockers in Living On A Thin Line, echoing the signature choral backing of the Davies brothers some 30+ years later. Not to be missed is the stellar musicianship, can the Davies brothers play guitars or what? Plus the sardonic Brit cynicism in their lyrics, another characteristic we've come to expect from them, no wonder they were the equals of such UK songwriting teams from A-List bands as Lennon-McCartney and Jagger-Jones-Richards!
