5.0 out of 5 stars Influential American Rock 'N' Roll. 'Nuff said., March 17, 2005
This review is from: Greatest Hits 1973-1988 (Audio CD)
Huh, first one to review this. Here goes...

I think it's pretty safe to say that everybody and their mother know who Aerosmith are. They've all heard "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" and "Jaded" enough times. And, of course, Steve Tyler is a celebrity in his own right. But (at least most) classic rock/70's music fans can tell you that back in the '70s, Aerosmith was KICKIN'. Don't get me wrong, their later stuff is good, but, honestly, it's hard to top the classics featured on this set.

And if you want foot-tapping, groovy, funky rock and roll (they don't make 'em like that anymore), look no further than this compilation. These songs are classics; the powerful ballad "Dream On" that skyrocketed Aerosmith to fame in the early '70s, the funky riff-laden "Walk This Way" (this is the original, obviously, sans Run DMC), their take on the Beatles hit "Come Together", the hard-drivin' "Back In The Saddle", et cetera, et cetera, and, of course, both versions of one of the best songs ever recorded - PERIOD - "Sweet Emotion". Track 5 is the watered down version (still decent), but Track 16 is the REAL "Sweet Emotion"... ohh man. Trippy intro, funky beat, ROCKING riffs... THIS is what rock 'n' roll is all about (you listening, Breaking Benjamin?)!

Yeah... this is a great introduction to classic Aerosmith. Although this is listed as an import (and a pricey one at that), you can buy this and "Classics Live!" as a two-set at most American record stores for a reasonable price. Check it on out.

"A-just gimme a KISS!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Better then the original!, November 5, 2005

This review is from: Greatest Hits 1973-1988 (Audio CD)
The original Greatest Hits by Aerosmith released in 1980 was anything but. Most of the songs that were hits for the band were left off, and the songs that were on the album were not the Greatest hits by the band, they were the right songs, but the wrong versions, remixes, and alternate edits totaly ruined the album.

'Sweet Emotion' and 'Kings And Queens' both feature amazing intro into the songs, especially 'Sweet Emotion' because of its amazing bass line. Those two intros were left off the album and the songs were made shorter. Whats more is 'Sweet Emotions' closing jam/guitar solo was also edited out. Whats up with that.

With only ten songs the original didnt satisfy diehard Aerosmith fans like myself. Songs like 'One Way Street' and 'Big Ten Inch Record' but here they have all the bands greatest hits from the 1970's and 1980's until 1987. The album says untill 1988 but its until '87 because 88 was when 'Dude (looks like a lady)' 'Angel' and 'Rag Doll' came out. So this more then makes up for the bad original compalation.

For Aerosmith fans there is nothing better then this band, and this collection does the best job of showing the band in its peak form before the quite drugs. Highly recomended!
