3.0 out of 5 stars Seems more like, "Death Row's Greatest 2Pac Hits"
I'm not gonna give this album five stars just because it's 2Pac. This is because, even though it's good to relive memories on such songs as "I Get Around" and "Hail Mary", there are a few flaws present. "All About U" cuts out Snoop's dialogue and is replaced with a Snoop-soundalike named Top Dogg doing a freestyle. "Changes" features lyrics previously heard in "I Wonder...

2Pac's style, lyrics, beats, originality, (I can go on forever) will never be matched. What makes him so good is that he raps about things that actually happen to him when he's not talking about sex or cursing out east coast rappers. This is a great collection of songs, and some are edited for legal reasons. The addition of the unreleased songs, especially "Changes", puts this above All Eyez On Me as his best album. The ratings max at 100.

5.0 out of 5 stars From early 2Pac, up till the end, all of the best songs., July 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
The Cd starts out with two great songs: Keep Ya Head Up and Two of Amerikaz Most Wanted. Keep Ya Head Up is about the troubles that our women suffer today. A slower sad song. Followed by Tupac and Snoop Dogg kicking a$$ in a song with the best beat and best lyrics. The next few songs aren't the greatest, but good beats and good lyrics. A few point outs for the rest of Disc One: Unconditional Love: A very, very good sad song about hard times and loved ones. Trapped: About livin a thug life. Life Goes On: Helping to understand death and giving dedication to their friend Kato. Hit 'Em Up: A powerful, vulgar rap portraying the hate against Biggie Smallz and Junior M.A.F.I.A. Disc Two: Troublesome is another powerful, fast song about living a hard life in the ghetto. Good Beat. Brenda's Got a Baby is a realistic portrayal of teen pregnecies and how life goes wrong for some. I Ain't Mad at ya is not a great song, but stands it's ground. Changes is one of Tupacs greatest. It's fast beat and poetically written lyrics combine to make a moving song about changing society and treating humans right. California love talks about the hustling scene in Cali. Picture Me Rollin, an upbeat boastful fun song about money, cars, and High Rollin. How Long Will They Mourn Me is a slower dedication by Thug life to Kato. Dear Mama is a song for Tupacs struggled stressed mother that did her best to raise Tupac. It's all About U is about women and sex, fast and fun. To Live and Die in L.A. is a slower song talking about the scene in South Cali. A compilation of 2Pacs best songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tupac is up there with Rock music's all-time greatest..., May 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I'm not a very big fan of the "music" they call rap but Tupac Shakur truly transcends hip hop as a music form and that fact is very evident when one listens to this double cd. The guy is a song writer not a rapper (like Eminem or the deceased Notorious BIG are rappers just rapping random things that rhyme and are clever)... though rap was his medium I put him up there with John Lennon and Bob Marley. The whole album is deep lyrically and the musical backdrop (provided by hip hop's best producers, Dr. Dre, Johnny J, Daz,Easy Mo Bee) is trump tight quality-wise. When you listen to this CD it's like you can get inside Shakur's mind... both the good and the bad. His clear emotional voice and poetical word combinations are that of a man who has seen it all. His death appears inevitable as one lets this album play. An incredible artist that totally transcended rap music. Long Live the memory of Tupac!

5.0 out of 5 stars 2Pac's Greatest Hits...., October 31, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I will not bother myself with the ignorance that has plauged the review of this album.....Ill just say that Infamous Dogg has to be one of the most ignorant indivduals ive ever had the displeasure of coming across on the internet. Anyways, with that said, lets talk about the album at hand: Tupac's Greatest Hits.

"Greatest Hits" is a compilation of Pac's biggest and most well known hits. If you are even just a casual listener of rap music, you will probably know most of these songs, as many of them topped the charts and are among some of the most famous hip hop songs ever recorded. This album displays all sides of Pac as he is known: from his love of strong women [Keep Ya Head Up & Dear Mama], his obsessions with death [God Bless The Dead], his political upbringing [Trapped], his sheer, raw emotion [Life Goes On], to his rage [Hit Em Up]. Just about every song on here is a timeless gem, and it could be argued that this is the best compilation of Tupac songs ever put together. "Hail Mary" remains one of the deepest and greatest songs of all time, in any musical genre.

Despite all the gems here, I do have some minor problems with this album. First, many of my personal fav songs from Pac arent on here. I know this is meant to be a Greatest Hits album, but many of Pac's best songs were his lesser known and more obscure tracks. Alot of these songs are just as good, if not even better, then the ones on this album. However, it really is impossible to make a compilation of Tupac's best songs, as he just has too many classics.

If you are new to his music, this is a good place to start, as you get a good selection of songs and a wide range of his abilites. If you do not like greatest hit albums or compilations, and wish to buy his studio albums instead, I would recommend to start with 2Pacalypse Now [his debut album] and chronilogically work your way up to the very last album he recorded while he was alive, Makaveli: The Don Killuminati The 7 Day Theory [which happens to be my all-time fav album]. If you have been listening to Pac's music for years like I have, this is still a great addition to your collection, even if you have these songs already. You get all his radio hits on one album, and there are 4 previously unreleased recordings here [God Bless The Dead, Changes, Troublesome 96', and Unconditional Love].

A well balanced collection worthy of anyone's purchase, no matter what type of music you listen to.

5.0 out of 5 stars God Bless The Dead, March 12, 2005
By
Cam3leon (Temple Hills, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
To all the purists that have a bone to pick with Makaveli's recent releases (especially the atrocious "Nu Mixx Klazzics") canNOT complain with this collection. Unless you're that dumba** who thinks Ja Rule is a better choice. No watered-down synthesized beats or armies of guest appearances from guys who have never even met 2Pac are present. Just straight-up classic tracks and a few posthumous songs to boot. All of Pac's hits are on this album, so for those that have yet to listen to a full disc from his heyday (and sadly, that would be me), this'll be a real treat.

The Pros: Possibly the most unique aspect of Tupac is the contradictions of his personality and lifestyle. For instance, back in his "2Pacalypse" days, he showed a more political mindstate in songs like "Brenda's Got A Baby" and "Trapped", dispaying the plights of a ghetto child. He manages to make inspirational songs as well, like "Changes" and "Keep Ya Head Up". Now besides Ja Rule and Bossman, how many other rappers have made this type of anthem to struggling women? I know there are some, but you know very well that 2Pac had to one of the first. Yet you'll notice that his message turns progressively more gangsta as he matures. Songs like "I Get Around", "All About U" and "How Do You Want It" display his player image, a BIG contrast from the aforementioned "Keep Ya Head Up". Nevertheless, he still manages to give back to the people, with "Dear Mama" as a heartfelt dedication to...who else? His mama. Pac was also good at capturing the different perspectives of thug life, with "Life Goes On" and "I Ain't Mad At Cha" lamenting to the passing of an old friend. "How Long Will They Mourn Me?" kinda confuses me on whether he's talking about a friend or himself. But probably his shining (and deepest) moment is on "So Many Tears", showing the many paranoidal sides of an outlaw. "Hail Mary", the chilling single following Pac's death (with a really cheesy video along with it) is a more thugged out version of "So Many Tears", but the beat is great to smoke to. And no I don't smoke.......cigarettes.

Other standouts including the scathing "Hit 'Em Up". Even if you hate Biggie or Faith Evans, you can't deny that Tupac's "f***ed your wife" line was a serious low blow. There's also the smokeable "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted". The interaction between he and Snoop was OK, but Tupac obviously stole the show. The Westside anthems "California Love" (serious banger) and "Live and Die in L.A." are in full effect here. Then there's the eyebrow-raiser "God Bless The Dead", the eulogy to B.I.G. Now look, for you devout Pac followers, lemme break it down for you. I'm a HUGE fan of 2Pac and his music, but the fact of the matter is he's dead. Period. My only theory for the song is that he made it ahead of time, when he and Biggie were cool. After all, with their lifestyle, Pac knew that it was a matter of time before it got caught up to them. Why else wasn't the song released till 1998? And if you don't believe me, check out the song "Loyal To The Game"; he says a line about "slicin' muthaf***ers since I lost my mama", when Afeni Shakur's been alive before his death and to this date. Think about it.

The Cons: Probably the only complaint you're likely to state is that Pac can get a LITTLE repetitve in his lyrics. I mean, c'mon. It gets to the point where you start to hear certain words repeated in his songs. After all, pretty much everyone (even Eminem; "Square Dance") has rhymed enemies and Hennessy at one point. All because of Pac.

Bottom Line: Excellent greatest hits collection with many timeless classics. Even if the masses have experienced Tupac overkill by now, there's no shame in coppin' this s**t.
------------------------10 out of 10----------------------------
Best Songs:
-"So Many Tears" (deep s**t)
-"Keep Ya Head Up"
-"Brenda's Got A Baby" (for all the baby mamas....in my school)
-"God Bless The Dead"
-"Life Goes On" (rest in peace, young n***a)
-"California Love"

And readers, if you need a good laugh, check out those crackheads a couple of reviews above mine. You know, the one that thinks 50 Cent is better (check out my honest review of "The Massacre") and the other one who said he died from an overdose of crack while beefing with Lil Jon and Will Smith who live on the West Coast and Sum 41 is the best in the rap....(achoo!) "Excuse me, I'm allergic to bull$#!+". Ha! Now there's a Will Smith quote for ya @$$!!

5.0 out of 5 stars THANKS FOR SHARING . . ., November 29, 2003
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I'm not gonna front. I'm just an average white(Portuguese/Italian) kid from an average working/middle class family. So the whole "thug" thing is something I can't really relate to, but with 2pac, it don't really matter. He pulls ya in like a trip'd out car accident on the side of the road, maybe you shouldn't "I spy", but you just can't help it, and you look and stare anyway.

When I dropped this cd, clip'd on the headphones, what dude was say'n, listen up, pop open this cd kid, I've got somethin'for ya . . .

* "GOD BLESS THE DEAD" - I've been guilty of say'n sh** like, "just say no to crime", but when you're a 8 yr. old lil' kid and mom's slam'n down 3 jobs, no daddy, and you got the street whisper'n, "piss'd, hey kid, we's ya'll family now". Guess what, early graduation to thug life.
* "HIT' EM UP" - This is one of those "rock em' sock em'" anthems that get me strok'd every time. Dude is sling'n out rhymes that would slug holes through any bullet proof vest, nuff said.
* "I AIN'T MAD AT YA" - I dig the hook, "Yo, you ain't feel'n me?, cool, do ya thang, I'm still wetcha, got only mad luv for ya boa".
I wish I could've heard this classic jam years ago, I'd still have relationships with best friends that I've push'd away over the years.
* "CALIFORNIA LOVE" - This one's great to jump and get the party started. The "Doc" Dre, made a house call on this one, drop'n hard sexy beats, and loops like nobody's business.
* "DEAR MAMA" - To hear this sup'd up macho mofo throw out love for his mom's, forgetaboutit, that's what it's all about baby.

Sure, he's a hard ass impressario, but thats what makes 2pac so special is because as much as he's a hard mother f*****, he's also sensitive, intuitive, insightful and always bang on the dime.

Like most other "greats", including the Bob Marley's of the world, he delicately pulls off the "cat in the hat" by not try'n to have all the answers, and preach'n all kinds of non-sense about sav'n the world. Just a cool cat, quarterback'n his take on life, what we do with the ball when we catch it, is up to us.

He may have left the stage a wee bit early, but his special gifts, will stay with us forever.

Thanks for sharing Pac . . .

Mykey

5.0 out of 5 stars 2pac's best cd, November 28, 2003
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
It is worth buying this cd instead of studio albums if you are a casual Pac fan. I'm not gonna get into this whole 'infamousdogg is an idiot' thing because everybody has the right to express their opinion and let's face it he made some good points (and some bad ones!).however, cdrw622, below me, is an idiot. He called Tupac illiterate then misspelled clown.Looking at his other reviews, I'm glad I have a good point to make when I say he is a total idiot. But, besisdes that slight interruption, i'm just going to straight up review this cd, and my first thought is buy it if you like rap music!!!
1.Keep ya head up-One of 2pac's best songs.Great, thought provoking lyrics and a great positive vibe. The beat is a little too loud though. 9/10

6.Me against the world-Average, with a great message at the end-6/10
