3.0 out of 5 stars Half great / Half just ok
This would have been a 4 or 5 star if it had stopped at track 8. The rest of the cd is trying to hard and brings down the whole cd. Love the popular songs but the rest are just so so.

4.0 out of 5 stars Anything you could want to hear...almost!, December 28, 2004
This review is from: Greatest Hits: 30 Years of Rock (Audio CD)
I spent the better part of four hours last weekend racing on an X-Box with a friend. The finest part was turning down the video soundtrack and substituting George Thorogood's 30 Years of Rock collection! Talk about adrenaline pumping tunes!! The collection and body of work offered by this man has stood the test of time over these years, and is summarized beautifully in this anthology. The only disappointment was "Ride On Josephine" is conspicuously absent from the CD. Oh well...can't have everthing. I'll just have to buy another thoroughly good Thorogood CD to get that track! Ride on, George...ride on!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thorogood rocks., July 9, 2005

I found this album in Wal Mart for nine bucks, and at that price it was an absolute steal.

This has got George's best known songs on it as well as two great live cuts. Great all-American rock and roll. When I hear "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" I get goosebumps. I could've done without the remix of "Who Do You Love?", especially when you consider (as another reviewer pointed out) "Ride On Josephine" isn't on this, but that's seriously a minor quibble for the insane price I nabbed this for. I love it and I'm glad I've got in in the old music collection.

Maybe when I'm out of college and have some money to burn I'll get George's catalogue, but for now this greatest hits comp is a can't miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Blues Guitar Player From Delaware?, March 3, 2006
By

This review is from: Greatest Hits: 30 Years of Rock (Audio CD)
It sounds crazy, but it's true. This guy is a fantastic blues guitar player, and he's from the State of Delaware. And this CD is a collection of his finest songs from over the past three decades. It's a great CD and a must have for any fan of blues guitars.

Thorogood is a true blues musician, every song, every lick inspired by the blues. He never strayed. In his music you hear the influence of greats like John Lee Hooker, Elmore James and Muddy Waters, but Thorogood plays it in his own energetic style. He won't be remembered as a great technician. SRV or Albert King could pick circles around him in their sleep. But he has created a distinct innovative modern blues style that hopefully will influence many others.

A must add that I just love the sound of that Gibson ES-125 with P-90s. It has a very distinctive sound that you just can't get with most other guitars, and that sound is a perfect complement to the blues as Lonesome George so beautifully demonstrates on all the songs on this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thorogood Rocks . . . but . . ., June 13, 2004

In this very fine greatest hits package, Lonesome George demonstrates exactly why his best songs became a staple of FM rock and karaoke bars everywhere. Turn the volume up to 11 on hits like "Bad to the Bone", "I Drink Alone", "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" and "Who Do You Love?" (the original, not the overslick, lifeless remix) and you'll blow the roof off of every gin joint in town.

The rest of the disc, however, may leave you wanting more unless your a hardcore GT fan. "Madison Blues", "If You Don't Start Drinkin'" and "Get a Haircut" are good fun, but Thorogood treats "Willie & the Hand Jive" like a throwaway and likewise goes through the motions on "You Talk to Much" and "American Made", the weakest song on the CD.

The back to back live tracks, "The Sky is Crying" and "Reelin & Rockin'" point out Thorogood's biggest weakness and best strength. His balls-to-the-wall approach, though heartfelt, hurts a song like "Sky" which requires more subtlety. "Reelin'" though, is the type of all out party song Thorogood excells at.

Devoted Thorogood fans will not be disappointed by this CD. Newbies to his music, however, may get lost once they get past his biggest hits.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic and a Must-Have, August 23, 2007
This review is from: Greatest Hits: 30 Years of Rock (Audio CD)
Buy this, now.

You've all ready come far enough to look at this review so, obviously, you have some appreciation for at least this genre, if you don't all ready know who George Thorogood and the Destroyers are. If this is true, then you need this album. However you wound up reading this, take it as fate and make a good decision.

There is no better than One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer, or I Drink Alone when it comes to cracking open a beer and having a good time. And who doesn't love that?

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic George Thorogood, September 28, 2005
This review is from: Greatest Hits: 30 Years of Rock (Audio CD)
This compilation was very well done, it's got most of his classic, hit songs, there are a few that aren't here, but it's still very good. The sound is great and there are gems on here, as well. Good bluesy-rock. This is the best compilation of GT, to get.

I just got this CD the other day. Fantastic music, good rockin' tonight. You can't go wrong buying this CD. It will make your troubles go away on a blue day. Put it in your CD player and crank it. I've got at least 18 CD's by George and will look for all to complete my collection. As Austin Powers said. More please, thank you.

Great for an occasional dose of classic George. Especially good to jump start your energy level on the way to work on those "low energy" mornings.
