Here's a really good set of Anne's music ~ completely enjoyable from beginning to end.
There aren't any that are hard to find ~ all of these are on her regular albums.
But it's convenient to have this many in one set ~ although it would be nice to have more then 12 on one C.D.
There aren't any sleepers here ~ this is the break-down by chart numbers ~
9 number one hits ~ 16 top ten hits ~ 4 at - or just missed the top twenty ~
1 top 40 ~ 1 # 67 and 5 album tracks ~~~ that equals 1 hour & 55 minutes of great music.
From Murray's first song to chart in 1970 to her last in 1991 she had 54 songs make the country chart.
As mentioned above ~ 31 of those are here.
The box set contains 3 pink disc ~ 12 tracks each, there are no liner notes.
The music sounds great (AAD).
Timeless Media Group ~
Product of Cema Special Market/Capitol/EMI ~ Original Recordings.
Footnote ~ This set has more hits then ~ 'The Best so Far" which has 17 hits
1 B-side ~ 1 song from 'Croonin' C.D.
And 1 previously un-released track that is originally from 1985
which had additional tracks added (mixed) to up-date it to 1994.
I watched a rerun tonight which featured a female vocalist that all the kids are talking about. She has an extremely interesting look but those of us who were here throughout the 1970's still listen to incomparable female vocalists including Helen Reddy, Rita Coolidge, Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight and of course, perhaps the leader of the pack, Canada's own Anne Murray. The aforementioned female vocalists were all beautiful women but simply having the slim bodied look is what we have today versus what Anne Murray gave our generation which was massive and unmitigated vocal finesse we might never see again. Anne Murray songs on this box set that I still listen to today include Danny's Song, Daydream Believer (a Monkees Davy Jones cover), A Love Song.Anne's signature song is Snowbird, a classic and after all Anne Murray is "The Snowbird". I adored the properties of her vocals. There was a little bit of contralto mixed with country of course and a noticeable component of syrup sort of like the feminine version of Brook Benton's Rainy Night in Georgia. Anne started out to learn some form of physical training so her appearance came across even more alluring than our present aspiring singers. While crooner was an older person's summary of Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Russ Colombo et al, I believe Anne Murray to have some of that going because her music flowed out so mellifluously and sensually that she was the real article. If Anne Murray makes a come back and tours come to Long Island I will be there when my rooster crows. Nobody would ever attempt to judge Anne or any of the female wunderkinds above because they achieved their phenomenal success at the behest of the listeners.Read more ›
