5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT SAMPLING
I don't know how the previous reviewers can morally justify their slamming of this legendary pop gem....but I suppose they have thier twisted ethics all worked out. although not a staggering masterpiece, this chronicle does indeed highlight am/fm 70's rock icon. few are the bands that stretched thier modest talent like BTO. I think it is a "must" for...

3.0 out of 5 stars BTOs greatest hits
A lot of filler type songs, but it also contains their big hit songs. Price was right however because I bought it used.

This is a very good CD. I would recommend it to anyone who has not listened a whole lot to Bachman-Turner Overdrive before. I really like most of the songs and listen to them constantly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just play "Taking Care of Business!", February 5, 2010
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Just play "Takin' Care of Business!"

That scene with Canadian rockers Bachman-Turner Overdrive in the Simpsons cracks me up every time I think about it. Homer probably would have enjoyed a bare bones hits collection like BTO's Greatest. It gets right to the point, collecting both of BTO's big hits ("You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet" and of course "Takin' Care of Business") as well as ten other songs that were moderately successful at the time but don't get played every day on classic rock radio. They're all pretty much about driving and/or rocking, and you really can't go wrong with that.

There are better BTO collections out there (Goldis particularly good), but if you're looking for a decent, dirt-cheap introduction to the band, BTO's Greatest ought to do just fine. The sound quality is pretty lousy, but this disc was released back in 1986, so that's to be expected. Just turn up the volume and "get to the `workin' overtime part!"

1.0 out of 5 stars Go For Broke, November 3, 1999

If you like the raunchy and rowdy BTO. Then yo want their first lp - Bachman-Turner Overdrive (Mercury). This is where they lived and died. Commercial success is you thing, then ignore this warning, and do what you want.

1.0 out of 5 stars B-b-b-baby, your reception must be really b-b-b-bad, December 31, 2009

I can't say whether "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" is the most criminally annoying song ever recorded, but I do know that it has got to be in the upper eschelon of such ambitions. Whatever the truth about waterboarding suspected terrorists and suchlike, the American military personnel taking heat for such actions could have done worse to their subjects by playing gems like this one.

If you doubt my assertion that this song is *decidedly* annoying, go look up the story to it. One band member was evidently poking fun at another's childhood stutter. This might be okay if the song itself were actually funny, but instead we're subjected to the cruel and pointless relaying of some inside joke, and the delivery makes some of us break out in apopleptic fits. To those who think they like this song because of some nostalgic connection, be honest with yourselves: just because it may bring back memories doesn't mean it was good.

"Takin' Care of Business" is another matter. Now I think I may have some dim understanding of what Chinese water torture must feel like: It starts off rather benign, but after repeated plays (classic rock radio throughout the nation gleefully provides them) it starts to...get to you. Don't believe me? Listen to it again, alone. And again. If your brain doesn't turn to mush by the fourth or fifth time, have a word with your doctor about a hearing exam.

But all discussion of musical merit aside, let's pretend for a moment that it really is worthwhile...okay, I can't go that far. Let's pretend for a moment that it provides some background music suitable for retail chains (still stretching a point here, I know). Can't you just tune to your local radio station and have a better than 80% chance of hearing this at any random time? Is the reception in your area really that bad that you must actually buy this in order to misspend your adulthood?
