This CD contains many great Chipmunks hits which I love, but pales in repect to the other Chipmunk's Greatest Hits album, Still Squeaky After All These Years, which has a better seletion incluing many on this CD, and an interview with Ross Bagdasarian Jr. The main reason to buy this one is to get their covers of Beatles songs that are not on the newer one. Enjoyable overall.

A pretty good verson of their greatest hits especially thier first song, and a good compilation of thier first 45s a even better picture from the first album cover, poor Dave imagine trying to record an album with 3 chipmunks with minds of their own, its enough for anyone to just love them all over agian once you have heard this cd , which proves once again once a Chipmunk allways a chipmunk after all i have listened to them since i was 3 and i am now 40 years old-Mark

When Ross Bagdasarian of Fresno, California conceived the idea of speeding up his own voice while experimenting with a new tape device and scored with the December 1958 monster hit The Chipmunk Song, little did he know then that he had just launched an industry encompassing animation and albums that would endure for decades to come. As Alfi And Harry he had first appeared on the national charts for Liberty Records in February 1956 with the # 44 Billboard Pop Top 100 The Trouble With Harry, inspired by the Alfred Hitchcock movie, and from late that same year to mid-1959 he would add 6 more under the billing The Music Of David Seville, including the April-May 1958 # 1 smash The Witch Doctor.

But from The Chipmunk Song on he would be billed as David Seville And The Chipmunks, lending the names Alvin, Simon and Theodore to the three lovable characters, using the names of the 3 Liberty executives Alvin Bennett, Simon Waronker and Theodore Keep. By the end of 1962 he had appeared on the Billboard Pop Hot 100 22 times with 7 different songs (several would re-chart in different years). And these were, in the general acceptance of the term "hit records" of the type Brook Benton sang about in his 1962 R&B/Pop entry Hit Record (and resurrected 12 years later by The Raspberries as Overnight Sensation).

Curb, in this 1992 volume, unfortunately chose to leave out two of the legitimate charting sides - the weak September 1960 # 95 Hot 100 Alvin For President - Liberty 55277 and the cover of Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer which would chart 3 different times - # 21 Hot 100 Dec 1960, # 15 Adult Contemporary (AC)/# 47 Hot 100 Dec 1961, and # 77 Hot 100 Dec 1962 - all as Liberty 55289.

At the request of my daughter I ordered the Greatest Hits of the Chipmunks. When she was little we had all of the cassette tapes of them. Now, years later she wanted the music of the Chipmunks to share with her kids.

We just spent a week with them and oh what fun we had rocking with the Chipmunks. Thanks for the memories and awesome tunes.
