With his latest too commercial offerings, the 45 year old handsome saxman has embraced the mainstream and the most beaten market/chart MOR path, loosing some of his edge and inspiration, in contradiction with the title of one of his best albums Off the Beaten Path.
But, despite all that, I have to admit that I've been a huge fan of saxophonist Dave Koz for quite some time.
I've seen him in concert quite a number of times.
On long car rides, when you feel lonely and in need of something entertaining or soothing, on a very special dinner, with the person you love, his music has been there time and time again.
In fact, for nearly two decades, the popular musician and composer has been delighting and enthralling legions of fans with his music. And now, with his latest album, Koz reflects upon his career by highlighting eleven of his greatest and most popular songs.
From the first track to the last, Dave Koz "Greatest Hits" is a tour de force.
Although the album is packed with Koz classics, documenting a career with incredible longevity and diversity, it also provides a sneak preview of Dave's next chapter with four brand new compositions, including one particular track that has the potential to become one of the biggest hits of the talented sax master's career.
"Life In The Fast Lane" the first single, in fact, was most added for three consecutive weeks and is already at No. 12 on the charts.
"I wrote it with Darren Rahn, one of the great up-and-coming writer/producers of today, and it reminds me of the pace my life has taken over the past 18 years" he says. "It certainly feels like I've been traveling in the fast lane... and absolutely enjoying every bit of the ride".
Other highlights: "Bada Bing", "Can't Let You Go (The Sha La Song)" and "I Can" with gospel singer BeBe Winans.
The album debuts at # 1 on The Billboard Top Contemporary Jazz and # 184 on the Billboard 200 Chart.

While I'm not a big fan of his music, I must give credit when it's due.

The 11 songs (4 of the 15 songs are new) which Koz handpicked for this compilation are all very good. Plus, he explains each song in the liner notes. I didn't know he composed the theme to General Hospital (used from 1993-2003). Also it's great to see the vocalists being used only in hooks ("Can't Let You Go" & "Love Changes Everything" ) expect for the new song "I Can" with Bebe Winans, a song with a message that's needed for the times that we're currently in...

For newcomers, this is a great introduction to Dave Koz. For his diehard fans, you'll get a great collection showcasing his work over the past 2 decades.

Dave Koz is so manipulative with his sultry sounds from his brass instrument. If you want something a little different and enjoy instrumental music, this is for you! I am addicted!

I love this music! Hearing Dave Koz for the first time recently on Public TV caused me to run to my computer to order a recording. I am now a fan for life and only regret not having discovered him long ago. If you are a lover of smooth jazz, buy this music.

Absolutely the best of Dave on one CD, sheer pleasure to listen to at any time of the day or night and as a bonus, some new music from a truly great artist!

The Dave Koz CD is wonderful, fabulous, spectacular. I love it!! I listen to it all the time because it is energizing when I need a lift, yet soothing and relaxing on some songs. If you love saxaphone, you'll love the music of Dave Koz.

Anytime listing, actually listened to DAVE KOZ during a Singapore airline flight out of chennai to Singapore, when i came back had most of his albums with me.

Good light listing, fast with good variations of true light jazz the typical Dave Koz way. Will not be a dissappointment

I saw Dave Koz on the Bonnie Hunt show and wanted to hear more so bought his latest CD and I am thoroughly enjoying it. My favorite is "You Make Me Smile" as that is exactly what it does. I have the CD on my computer and also in my car so I can smile anytime I want to. Great sounds!!

I have been listening to Dave Koz since the release of the Album the Dance. Dave's Greatest Hits is the best of all of them!!
The CD starts off with You Make Me Smile, and includes Some new songs,Life In The Fast Lane,and I Can with Bebe Winans who also sings the Dnce on the Album of the same title.
I have not ever been to see Dave Koz Perform Live, I hope that will change soon!

This is the best of Dave Koz. It is professional and well done just as the artist, Dave Koz. I'd recommend it to anyone. It's fun and enjoyable just as his concerts are. This is a good introduction to Smooth Jazz.
