Glen Campbell is a country pop icon of sorts. His hit records of the sixties and seventies were AM radio top 40 staples that received tremendous airplay, during an era that if you were heard on a transistor radio at the beach, you were a star for sure. His collaborations with Jimmy Webb are songs that have given the youth of that generation memories that will last a lifetime. To this day, when I hear "Galveston", "Witchita Lineman", "By The Time i Get To Phoenix", "Gentle On My Mind", and "Southern nights", I can immediately recall the good-times of my youth as well as Glen Campbell's short lived variety show. Having said all this, it was a joy to listen to this remastered collection of Glen's hits, that includes a nice booklet of photo's, and song by song information regarding chart status and a short essay as well. I would not pay attention to the few audiophiles, who claim the sound is distorted or too loud? I have no idea what they are talking about, except they need something to complain about, which is always human nature. This cd is a fine sounding collection of Glen's most popular hits, and is a must for anyone looking for just one Glen Campbell cd, that presents a fine overview of his career. Glen is releasing his final cd in a few months, as it was announced that he has the beginnings of Alzheimer's disease. The 75 year old country pop star, will embark on a final tour, while he still has time to perform, and I hope each and everyone of us who enjoyed his music over the years, will get a chance to see him perform one final time.

Great music, terrible mastering,

The great selling point of digital music was a wider dynamic range in which the loudest and softest portions of a song no longer had to be compressed to fit the narrower range of an LP or Cassette. Unfortunately, within the last 10 years, audio engineers seem to have forgotten all of this and now turn everything up to 11. While this may work for the latest metal release (no, it actually doesn't), what this does to most material is make it sound horrible. This is no exception. I have a copy of Rhinestone Cowboy from a cheap foreign CD set, probably mastered off 2nd or 3rd generation source material. It sounds markedly better than what is on this MP3. Everything in the mix is turned up as loud as it will go to the point where the sound is distorted in the mix. This is absolutely the LAST thing you should be doing to music from this genre and era. If you've ever turned up music louder than your speakers can handle, or tried recording music at levels that are too loud, you'll get a sense of how brittle and terrible sounding 85% of this music sounds. I started buying music in the CD era, and one of my greatest joys was putting on headphones and hearing sounds I never heard on vinyl or FM radio. These days, all you hear is LOUD. I know a lot of people can't tell the difference, but trust me, this set sounds terrible, which is a shame.

Glen Campbell can still please his loyal fans; and there's no doubt as to why when you listen to this album full of great, timeless music by this icon. Glen is in excellent form throughout this CD; and every tune's a winner! The quality of the sound is excellent and I like the artwork as well.
"Rhinestone Cowboy;" "Wichita Lineman;" "Southern Nights;" "By the Time I Get to Phoenix;" "Galveston" and "Try a Little Kindness" shine bright in Glen's capable hands. Glen handles these songs with panache and he never skips a beat! The music is perfect for the lyrics and these are memorable songs to say the least. "Gentle on My Mind" is very well done; and it's easy on the ear as well. Glen sings this with all his heart and soul; I love it. "I Wanna Live" has a great country flavor to it and there are yet more ageless gems in songs like "Country Boy (You Got Your Feet in L.A.);" the passionate "True Grit;" "Honey, Come Back;" "It's Only Make Believe" with Glen squarely in the spotlight and "Dreams of the Everyday Housewife." "Hey Little One" has Glen singing at his usual very best; and the album closes with two other numbers, "Times Like These" and "These Days." It leaves me wanting more! Glen Campbell's talent is nicely showcased on this album; and it's a must-have for his fans. It also makes a fine starter CD for people who are just discovering the wonderful artistry of the great Glen Campbell.

I was really excited when some of the songs were listed as remixed, I was hoping that it wasn't just a typo. A lot of Glen's output from the sixties suffers from the same problems as a lot of other artists from the same era - bad stereo mixes (some instruments mixed to only one channel). Well after listening to this disc it became pretty obvious that these are indeed new stereo mixes that would have been very pleasing to the ears except for one thing. They are all mixed/mastered TOO LOUD! So loud that there's enough distortion to please the most hardened heavy metal fan. Come on people, Glen's music doesn't need to compete with any of "today's artists" (one of the many bogus claims to defend loud cds). I will never understand why the medium (compact disc) that was supposed to bring dynamic range to a whole new level has done just the opposite. No wonder vinyl is making a comeback.

I have been a fan of Glen Campbell since seeing him in 'True Grit' as a young child. I have learned to appreciate his voice and influence on my singing and work as an artist myself. All of his hits are here in this package including "Witchita Lineman" and "Southern Nights". These tunes have been freshly remastered by Julian Raymond, who produced Glen's last effort "Meet Glen Campbell" in 2008. This is probably the best that these songs have ever sounded. Don't hesitate to pick this one up. Highly Recommended!!!

I am not one to keep repurchasing republished greatest hits CDs. But the sound quality on the one I had was simply appalling. This is a must for fans of Glen.

With the June 2011 announcement of Glen Campbell's illness, and coming retirement, I just knew I had to hear him again. I was a huge fan in the 70s, enjoying his tunes Rhinestone Cowboy, Country Boy, and especially Galveston. Well, with this CD I now have the very best of Glen Campbell!
This CD has a great sound, and is chockfull of great Glen Campbell tunes. If you remember Mr. Campbell when he was at the peak of his career, then you will love this album...as I do!

If you don't have a smile on your face by the time the third track of this CD has played, you must not have a heart or a pulse!
Campbell's best hits still ring true after almost 40 years and will transport you back in time to the carefree days of the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour. We still love this musical Rhinestone Cowboy and this compilation of his best is a must-have for any country music fan.

Not really a fan of remixes,
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Eco) (Audio CD)
Well the subject says it all. But when I saw Amazon was letting you hear snippets of the songs, I had to hear "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" and my jaw dropped. There isn't as much reverb on Glen's voice. Plus the beauty of the Cello and the Trombones and the trumpets have a little more bite to them. And yes I also love "True Grit" but this time the drums are right up front with the Acoustic Guitars unlike the 1969 mix, the guitars aren't dominating the beauty of the string section which is nice and crisp as well. And you can really hear the Oboe or whatever it is beautifully. "Galveston" has a lot more punch to it than the 1969 mix. My only complaints I have are, the modern sound of "Witchita Lineman" has more reverb on the drums and also the Lowery organ that was used for the sound effects of a phone is buried in the reverb and those killer drum fills done so well by the Legendary Hal Blaine are also buried in the reverb. The other nit pick is I could have done without the corny "Honey Come Back" and they could've included "Where's The Playground Susie" instead. But who knows maybe that one didn't chart as high as "Honey Come Back" While I wouldn't reccomend it for purists which I can tend to be, with headphones, this collection is a treat for the Ears.
