5.0 out of 5 stars LOOK AT THE FREAKIN' TITLE!
Oh, come on! Look at you all, complaining that your fave GNR song isn't on it!

Look at the title of the CD. It says: 'Guns n' Roses' Greatest Hits', doesn't it? That means it has - guess what? - the greatest hits of Guns n' Roses, not the 'specially crafted Guns n' Roses CD especially for YOU and nobody else'.

Just check any UK Top 40...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good album, but I would recommend starting off with AFD
First of all, this is a very good album, with few weak tracks. But if you are trying to get into Guns N' Roses, I would recommnend first buying Appetite For Destruction, which is almost a "Best Of" album itself. GN'R only released five albums, and the few tracks on Greatest Hits just don't do them justice. Skip this, and go with AFD, and I guarantee you will be hooked...

Just check any UK Top 40 Singles Chart Archive (try www.everyhit.com and type in Guns n' Roses in the 'Artist' slot) and it will show you how each of their singles rated in the Public Charts.

Compare the list of their hit singles to the Greatest Hits album and you'll see that the line up is virtually identical. Cool, Eh?
Now, where on that list do you see 'Estranged', 'Coma' or 'Mr Brownstone'? Nowhere.

'Nuff said.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it if you're a Guns N' Roses fan, March 31, 2004

If you're a Guns N' Roses fan, there's only 2 reasons why you should buy this album...

- You're a G'N'R collector
- You have a friend who likes G'N'R, but doesn't own any of the albums. So this album is a great present indeed.

A true fan already owns at least "Appetite For Destruction", "Use Your Illusion I & II" and perhaps "Lies". "The Spaguetti Incident" was just a plain bad album, but if you liked "Since I Don't Have You", you might as well go to ITunes or Napster and download it.

People on the previous posts complain a lot for this album not including more songs from "Appetite For Destruction" or "Use Your Illusion" but let me remind them... THIS IS A HITS ALBUM!! ...which includes pretty much every single song played on the radio. There's a lot of fan favorites not included here, but that's just because THEY WEREN'T HITS!

Yet this is a great pick for anyone who is just about to get introduced to this band. Guns N' Roses could have been the biggest thing since 'The Beatles', but we all know how that story ends. So don't even bother to wait for 'Chinese Democracy' to come out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guns N' Roses Key Hits Are All Here And Remastered Too!, March 27, 2004
By
highway_star (Hallandale, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
While other reviewers put down this Guns N' Roses collection for various reasons, I still felt since their biggest hits are included in this package (even if some are cover versions) and remastered I'm not complaining. I also picked this cd up at a local store for an extremely low price so I felt I got alot of music for the money! Hits such as "Paradise City", "Welcome To The Jungle", "Sweet Child O' Mine", "You Could Be Mine", "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" (a Bob Dylan cover), "Live And Let Die" (a Paul McCartney And Wings cover), "November Rain", "Don't Cry" and "Sympathy For The Devil" (a Rolling Stones cover) are here plus five more songs. The sound quality is excellent due to remastering and it's all put together in an attractive digipack. If you enjoy eighties rock such as Poison, Cinderella, Motley Crue and Dokken then you'll enjoy this collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guns N' Roses are one of the best metal bands of all-time, January 7, 2006
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This is a must every Guns N' Roses fan. All of Guns N' Roses hits are here including the masterpiece- Welcome to the Jungle, the ballads- Don't Cry and November Rain. Their #1 single, Sweet Child O'Mine is here. You Could Be Mine is a blistering piece of metal and showcases Guns N' Roses at their best. Patience shows the lighter side of Guns N' Roses. All the hits are here with Don't Cry, Sweet Child O'Mine, Patience, Yesterdays, Paradise City, Yesterdays, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Civil War and Since I don't have you.

Guns N' Roses topped Billboard 200 albums with Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion II. I have every album released by Guns N' Roses.

Say what you will about Axl Rose- but his band, Guns N' Roses is one of the best metal acts in history. With more than 100 million records sold, who can argue with the success of this band.

Velvet Revolver can dream about having the same success as G N' R- but the truth of the matter is that Velvet Revolver will never ever have the same success as Guns N' Roses.

This is one of the best greatest hits collection released- not to mention that it was #1 on the Canadian album chart.

With #1 videos for November Rain, Don't Cry and You Could Be Mine- the success of the band speaks for itself.

4.0 out of 5 stars GnR Greatest Hits, March 26, 2005
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
First off, a Greatest Hits album is, by definition, a compilation of a band's greatest 'hits'. So, quit complaining about the omission of tracks like Mr Brownstone and Nightrain, because although they are great songs, they were never released as singles!

To the kid who called Guns n Roses 'just another 80s hair metal band with no talent', i'd like to invite you to take your infinitely great taste in music elsewhere in future. Guns n Roses were the Led Zeppelin of thier time (though somehow i doubt you know who Lep Zep are..).

Now, on to the album; i'd call this an adequate collection that showcases the different sides to GnR; sometimes raucous, sometimes sweet; always brilliant. The only weak songs are the final few tracks, where the GnR veteran listener is left wanting more of the earlier sound and not the decidedly average [but still listenable] music from GnR's twilight years.

Overall, a good album. From the rockin' Welcome To The Jungle, to the beautiful November rain, this album provides a decent collection for the first time/casual fan

5.0 out of 5 stars An Overall Review, April 3, 2004
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I'm not going to write down reasons why GNR is one of the greatest Rock Band of all time, no this review is just something from which you will hopefully decide whether or not to buy the CD, lets get to it then.

Visually:
This CD is beautiful. Its one of those cases you're proud to display. It is a sleek two fold paper case which on the outside is silver, featuring one picture of the band, and a great one of Axl and Slash, both in silver and white. Underneath the CD is a full colour picture of the band from Appetite for Destruction.
The CD cover itself is really cool, but I won't spoil that surprise, you'll have to buy it to see it.

Audio:
I compared these tracks with their original counterparts and have to say that they sound great. They are sharper and crisper. The music it self really gets through a lot better without the interference. This is more evident on the Appetite for Destruction tracks.
Ah but is this a reason to buy it you ask? Well, a CD housing their biggest hits all together, and having those hits sound sharper and cleaner sounds like a pretty good reason to me. Even if you aren't fussy about music, most of you will notice the difference, especially on higher end stereos. The better sound really lets you enjoy them more, and its all of their hits too!

Track Listing:
Yes, it does include their big hits, however I was not completely satisfied. I suppose they wanted to include songs from each album, this is the only reason I could find as to why "Ain't it Fun" and "Since I Don't Have You" were picked over some of their lesser known masterpieces.
In my mind and, as I have read, many other fan's minds, their emotional roller coaster "Estranged" belongs on a GNR Greatest Hits album, period.
There are also several other songs that could have easily gone on, "Breakdown", "Night Train" or "So Fine". And while having a previously non released song "Sympathy for the Devil" is nice, it shouldn't take up space from their other hits, since this is a Greatest Hits Album.
Don't get me wrong, the first 11 (out of 14) songs are their best songs (except that Estranged should be one of them) however I have to ask why the three final songs, (which are all covers) are there instead of some of their other more deserving, and simply better, songs (that they wrote). That's all I will say about that.

Song Reviews:
As far as song reviews I didn't feel it necessary, if you are a fan and have heard their songs then there is nothing I need to tell you, if you are someone who isn't to familiar with them but wants to be, then stop reading now and go buy the CD, because that is the best way to do it.

Conclusion:
The final negative thing I would like to say is that I would have liked to have an accompanying booklet, maybe talking about the band, the songs etc.

To sum it all up this is a great buy. This CD has all of their hits, in a very nice order so you can just let it play. Every song on this CD (save for the last three) is an amazing song, and you will love them. The songs are also re-mastered and sound fantastic. It all comes in a kick @$$ package too.

Basically any CD which carries this many great songs, in wonderfully redone quality deserves to be bought.

Have a nice day.

PS This will also show anyone unfamiliar with GNR who the true Guns and Roses are, so they don't confuse the true band with the new band (save for Dizzy) Axl has formed with the same name.

5.0 out of 5 stars don't listen to the haters, July 13, 2005
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
GNR was the greatest band of its time, and their music will last as long as rock n roll. Most people still don't realize how good they were.

However, most of their albums had 3-7 junk songs, with 3-4 great songs. So they really needed a greatest hits album, bringing together their most popular music on a single album so that we can listen to it all back-to-back without changing CDs. I really appreciate this album for that reason, although I own most of their originals.

Some of the haters complain that a lot of the songs here are covers. Well, who cares? We can buy the Stones doing "Sympathy for the Devil" if we want to, there's no reason not to appreciate GNR's version. "Knockin'" and "Live and Let Die" were some of their greatest hits to be sure, and it would be foolish to omit them just because Bob Dylan or the McCartneys wrote them.

Let me share a great moment with you: in Ho Chi Minh city (also known as Saigon) in Vietnam, there's a popular ex-pat bar called "Guns N Roses Bar." I was in there one night, and "Civil War" came on, and many of the people in the bar (Aussies mostly) sang along with the music. It was a time to realize that this band's music (like other great bands before them) reached around the world and touched people everywhere, and it's one of the things that we have in common.

If you happen to be someone who somehow doesn't know about GNR's music, I really hope you'll get this.

One thing people overlook about the band is how socially conscious they were. They put out "Civil War" about the time of the First Gulf War, one of the only protests to that war that I know of. "Welcome to the Jungle," "Paradise City" and "Live and Let Die" all have similar social concerns. When I was a kid, I was part of the fundamentalist Christian community that objected to this music so strongly, but now I realize that actually these guys had a conscience and wanted to make us think about society and make us create a better world.

Hey, I just can't say enough good things... if you've got the money, buy this album and enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars GUNS N'ROSES ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!, November 17, 2005
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
dude, g'n'r is possibly the greatest band ever. followed closely by blink 182, mind you ;). seriously, you cant beat anything about them, their style (the tight leather, the hair, the bandanas), their looks, their MUSIC, their vocals, their guitar (SLASH!!!) now of course you cant contain their greatness in a single album, but for the casual listen, i highly reccomend this disk. if youre really into Good Music and you know it, get as many of their albums as possible. These were the days, baby!!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Greatest Hits", not "Best of" Guns 'N Roses, August 31, 2004

This album is exactly what its title indicates, a collection of the group's greatest hits, and not necessarily of their best work. Being more of a casual GnR fan, I have been waiting for something like this to be released for nearly six years. This has all of the songs that were popular for the band during the late 80s and early 90s. And yes, of course a few cover songs are included along with a number of their own original songs. But I remember both "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" and "Live and Let Die" being very popular when they were released on the "Use Your Illusion" albums. At the time I did not realize that they were cover songs, but that knowledge in years since has not reduced GnR's interpretation of these great songs. All in all, I found this album to be exactly what I had been waiting for, but the die-hard GnR fan looking for a "Best of"-album will likely be disappointed.
