Another Great Addition To The Kimbo Collection,
By
This review is from: Greatest Hits: Fill Your Head With Rock (Audio CD)
This cd/dvd is an awesome addition to any die hard Kim Mitchell fan. Not only does it have his great oldies, it also shows the Kimmy magic on his later records Aural Fixations/Kimosabe. The dvd is a phenomenal show when Kim was at his peak with Shakin' Like a Human Being and Rockland under his belt. You will be singing away for hours with this combo. Its a must have!

The second Kim Mitchell best-of collection, with a bonus!,
This review is from: Greatest Hits: Fill Your Head With Rock (Audio CD)
This second hits compilation comes about ten years after the first one was released in Kim's homeland of Canada, and has quite a different lineup of songs aside from the obvious ones. First of all, there's quite a bit from Kin's 1999 "Kimosabe" album, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and there's one track that was new at the time: "Fill Your Head With Rock" (this also appears as a hidden track at the tail end of his even more recent "Ain't Life Amazing" CD, also very highly recommended if you didn't think Kim's still got it...believe me, he does).
The other reason this is a must-have: the second disc is a DVD of Kim's 1989 "Kee to Bala" concert originally aired on MuchMusic. To my knowledge it's the only official live document of Kim and his band other than the "I am a Wild Party" album. You get to see Kim totally in his element playing live for a very appreciative audience and obviously loving every minute. If you're a longtime Kim fan, this is worth every penny. If you're just becoming familiar with his music, watch the DVD and you'll know what his fans have known forever...this guy IS a wild party and he loves his work! Turn it on and turn it up!!!

I have been waiting over 15 years for Kim Mitchell concert footage and it finally arrived! The entire package is excellent. These greatest hits are a showcase of some of his absolute best material that you don't normally hear on the radio. Do yourself a favour and pick it up!

What a great addition to the Kim Mitchell catalogue. It's really NOT a true greatest hits as it features a great majority of lesser known tracks on the greatest hits disc. However, this showcases some cool tracks and is a great listen. The real jem here is the 2nd disc - a DVD featuring an old Kee To Bala show from 1989 which Muchmusic aired back then. It seems to have been nicely polished. The version of "Crossroads" is worth the price alone (in my opinion) as it ranks one of my fav "live" songs of all time. If you are a deeper fan than "Patio Lanters" or "Go For Soda", get it.

KIM MITCHELL-canada's hidden talent,
By
This review is from: Greatest Hits: Fill Your Head With Rock (Audio CD)
if you live in CANADA you already know: this review is for all of america who have no idea what they're missing. I have been a major fan of kim's music since he performed in central ohio with MAX WEBSTER. the bill of fare was RUSH, APRIL WINE and MAX WEBSTER. I was blown away with the band and the talent of kim's guitar ability. this comprehensive cd/dvd are a wonderful improvement of other ghits collections. there is one new track on here and there really is a very good selection of many of his best songs. the best part of songs: kim and pye dubois working together have a wonderful connection to each other(kim music and pye's lyrics). the dvd is a showcase of his band(kim mitchell band and not max webster). the dvd is about 10yrs old with kim having much longer hair then now. if you are a guitar player: everyone should listen to his songs and watch the dvd. all musicians want to hear guitar players who have a unique style and sound and KIM MITHCELL has that talent. CANADA?, I salute you and to all the world?---get with the man and his music, you will forever be richer for knowing.

Well, as far as I know ther are no other Kim MItchell DVDs out there, (What I wouldn't give for the Barrie simulcast show to be on dvd!!!!) so this is our only choice.
It turned out it was a Kee to Bala show I already had on VHS from a long time ago but it's nice to have it on DVD. So keep in mind that it is NOT natively widescreen and the quality is fairly low by today's standards. But it's definitely a great show to have on DVD. The sound isn't all that great either. It's ok, but I saw this show in person at Exhibition Stadium here in Toronto (1989) and the sound was AWESOME. Even with my surround sound audio system here, it sounds a little flat. Again, this was recorded and mixed for tv long before DVDs and surround sound existed so thats to be expected. Still, all negatives aside, its a great dvd to have. And the songs on the CD are excellent. I had forgotten a lot of them and it's cool to hear Kim's songwriting at is best!

The Greatest Hits is not really, but culled mostly from his 90's period and 1 new song coupled with a few classics (for Kim anyway) including the ever popular Go For Soda. Now, onto the DVD. Since this is the only live video released by KM so far, it stands as a must have for fans. The problem with this video is that the camera spends TOO much time on the audience, and for no good reason. This is an 80's bar crowd, lots of mullets, big hair, nothing to see. By the end of the show, the camera is on the audience so much, you could forget who is playing if you turn the sound off. When Kim is soloing, you want to see him, not some knucklehead pumping his fist in the air. That said, audio and video quality are very good. One other complaint, the beginning of All We Are seems to cut into a solo already in progress by Kim.
