5.0 out of 5 stars Five Star Rules!
One of the best groups to come out of the U.K. during the 1980's, Five Star was Britain's answer to the Jacksons. 3.0 out of 5 stars They Should Have Thought This Out Carefully.....
This would have been an all time collection, but they used the wrong versions and most of these are edited. Some of the songs are not that bad but the timing on each makes you wish you bought the full lenght albums. So far I have their first 2 cd's with this Greatest Hits one. But after all, they are still one of the best groups out....

One of the best groups to come out of the U.K. during the 1980's, Five Star was Britain's answer to the Jacksons. Composed by a group of siblings and cousins, Five Star became noticeable in the United States after the release of their hit song "All Fall Down" in 1985. Other songs such as "RSVP," "System Addict," and "Love Take Over" also became memorable songs, however the song that gave this band the respect they deserve was a song about love gone wrong titled "Let Me Be The One." That song which brought Five Star close to the top of the Billboard charts was a beautifully composed song that gives me many memories of the decade that was known as the 1980's.

After they parted ways with RCA/BMG in the late 1980's, this group tried what other artists never had done before, release their albums on their own label. That label, Tent Records, gave Five Star a bit more income, but their hey-day was over, and quietly (except for some scandal involving one of the male members of the band) the band disappeared from the public's sight.

When I ordered a copy of this album, I just confided in my luck that somewhere out there someone would be able to locate a copy of a greatest hits compilation from this awesome British band. Before the emergence of e-commerce, I had to search with an independent musicseller, who found me a copy in Germany. It is a shame that I had to rely on an imported compact disc, for it is a known fact that RCA/BMG never released a greatest hits compilations stateside.

Truly, Five Star had immense talent, and the lead singer simply had one of the most beautiful voices I had ever heard. Their style of funk, pop, and soul made them unique in their own sense, and they always had great outfits in their videos. Purchase this album and discover the greatness of Romford, England's greatest export to world culture--Five Star.

5.0 out of 5 stars All is forgiven!, March 17, 2000

Gee it sure is great to hear the warbling tones of this GREAT BRITISH INSTITUTION FIVE STAR! I was a huge five star fan in the eighties and I never got over that indicent exposure malarky. HE WAS FRAMED MAN. I couldn't see anything - but I sure as hell felt - the power of the Romford 5.

Buy this CD and you'll relive all those COOL Eighties moments like, ra-ra skirts and Rambo movies and Rain or Shine.

A difinitive moment in 80s pop culture.

4.0 out of 5 stars Family Affair, November 20, 2002

I was only a teenager when Five Star were selling million of copies around europe, delivered countless UK TOP 10 hits and became the british answer to the american Jacksons some 20 years later.
The guys had the moves, the vocals and the writing skills to make you wanna buy them.
This greatest hits collection proves and charts how good they were throughout the '80's.
CAN'T WAIT ANOTHER MINUTE will always be dear to me ... and the Diane Warren-composed STRONG AS STEEL is delicious R'n'B (later covered by both Gladys Knight and Tina Arena).
If you want to have a little taste of dancefloor rhythms off the UK charts, just buy this n enjoy the flow!

5.0 out of 5 stars FIVE STAR are the embodiment of the eighties, March 14, 2001

Five Star, are the embodiment of everything that was stylish, sexy, and fun about the 1980's. The 80's group's ability to cultivate a rich tapestry of Pop, Rock, Soul, and R and B styles of music, is not only ingenious, but unrivalled. Their song called, "Can't wait another minute", showed that not only could Five Star, give U.S bands a run for their money, and WIN, but that the British are stylish, fun, and can dance, a quality which is unrivalled. Five Star were not only unique, but represented what hard work, and perserverance could get one if one tries. The spectacular Five Star are one of the greatest groups of all time, their fabulous costumes, designed by Stedman, the great dance routines, choreographed by Doris, the spectacular lead vocals, sung by Deniece, the main spokesperson Lorraine, and that gorgeous cutie Delroy, whose magical smile could make you melt. The music world wasn't the same when Five Star moved to the United States, they are everything that is engaging, happy, clean, and non-offensive. They displayed: family unity, harmony, and great dance routines, which gave Five Star the right to be called the, "Kings of dance routines", and the "Royal Family of Pop music", the charm and timelessness of their creativity, music, and talent, that of which again are unequalled. Their music video's made you believe that you were in a world of your own, with Five Star, and that you could sing and dance for hours, without interruption, you could even walk and dance in the street. Five Star's music, and personality was that of Five individuals, who's combined efforts made Five Star a force to be reconned with, and one of the greatest musical influences of all time. Stedman, Deniece, Doris, Lorraine, and Delroy, you've done us proud, and let it be said, that there is only one, FIVE STAR.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like this Greatest Hits? You'll like the other albums more!, January 5, 1999

The critics were (are) wrong! It seems they didn't do there homework well. Comparing Latoya with them is like comparing Janet with Samantha Fox.! Five Star proved themselves to be excelent songwriters and producers (the "5 Star" album of 1990), they dance on their own, they design on their own and they have still in 1999 their own record-label: TENT Records. They made after this greatest hits 3 more albums: "5 Star" (1990), "Shine" (1991)and "Heart & Soul" (1994). In total they made 7 (!) albums and 3 more greatest hits albums. No One-hit-wonder here. Just a good, proper and hard working family-band. Thumbs up for Five Star!

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Star is The Best!, December 8, 1999
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Just listening to Five Star's music unleases a flood of memories for me. When I first heard their music I was floored by how unique it sounded. The production and song structure is exquisite. To this day I get chills just hearing the Five Star hits that accompanied me through college. Regardless of what they have gone through after the fact, the real deal is on "wax" and cannot be denied of discounted. Get this "hit parade" as soon as you can and tell a friend to do the same.

Five Star was a favourite r&b band of mine from 1985-1990. They are still one of my favourite groups. It's nice to have all of their songs on one CD. The only drawback, is the versions on their greatest hits are the album mixes, and not their extended mixes, which would have been nice, but it doesn't detract from the talent exhibited by this group. All of the songs are great, and their music brings back some great memories. I highly recommend this CD for anyone into r&b/dance music, from the '80s on up to the present.

This greatest hits album just proves what a class act 5 Star really were! Deniece Pearson was such a big role model in my life and I am proud to say that this album is too. I only wish they were around today for other children to listen and look up to. I will continue to do the dance routines to this CD (perfectly may I add!!) for years to come LONG LIVE FIVE STAR!!!
