I picked up this gem in my local Walmart for $10.00, not bad at all! Viewing it from the standpoint of introducing Joan Jett and The Blackhearts to the younger generation I think it does an excellent job of representing Joan quite well. They will see the movie and if they like it they will want to know more about The Runaways and Joan Jett and will most likely come across this Greatest Hits on itunes or at F.Y.E. and check it out. The songs on here are HARD HARD ROCKIN' just the way I like it! A little bit from each album, kind of like a tease so hopefully they will buy the complete albums and become even bigger fans. I applaud Joan Jett or whoever produced this Greatest Hits compilation, alot of thought went into it I can tell.

Now, a little info about some of the songs. Tracks #2, #3 and #4 on the 1st CD (You Drive Me Wild, School Days and Love Is Pain) are all newly sung versions and I have to say THEY F*****G KICK ASS. It shows that Joan can still rock hard in case any idiots out there don't know it. Song #7 on the 1st CD (I Want You) is listed as previously unreleased. It was on the 1995 CD called "1979" which was only available from the Joan Jett Fan Club back then so I don't see how it is "previously unreleased". Anyway, that CD can be found here Joan Jett 1979

First off, no booklet is included at all, to see any type of liner notes (which are actually interesting) you gotta go to her website to see them. So the packaging is quite sparse with an outtake from the I LOVE ROCK-N-ROLL sessions from 1981 instead of a newer photo. (and it's in b&W).

Some songs I do not understand why they are on here: I'm Gonna Run Away, Activity GRRRL, I Want You...in place of better songs and actual hits. Also the 1:00 version of Love Is All Around is used instead of the full length version. Why? Also the Billboard top 100 Hits Little Liar, Dirty Deeds & Good Music are not included. WOuld have been nice to have the single version of Good Music on cd finally.

On the good side, the remakes of the Runaways tracks You Drive Me Wild & School Days are cool. Always loved these songs from the time I discovered Jett/Runaways. Love is Pain is also re-recorded to sound more like she does it live now.

I wasn't that familiar with JJ & the Blackhearts or The Runaways music other a few songs I heard on the radio over the years ... I actually purchased this disc because I plan on seeing the Runaways film. Glad I did.
There's some GREAT STUFF here...JJ's the real deal - she's got rock in her soul.. The message she projects here also is LOUD & CLEAR: Gals CAN rock just as well as the Boys ..... What you get in this collection is straight-up-no-frills-no-pretensions RAW rock....Guaranteed to please .... THANKS FOR THE GREAT STUFF JOAN!!

I love this collection! All of the tracks were chosen by Joan for their special meaning to her. For example, "You Drive Me Wild" was the first song she ever wrote, "Backlash" was her first collaboration with Paul Westerberg, "You Don't Know What You've Got" marks the beginning of her partnership with Kenny Laguna...etc. The new recordings of older songs are epically delicious. Joan sounds better than ever.

HOWEVER, if you really want the best version of this greatest hits, DOWNLOAD IT! i-Tunes has an extra song, "I Love Playing With Fire", and this new recording is ESSENTIAL for any Joan Jett fan. For $20 at i-Tunes you can get 22 songs, an e-booklet with pics and lyrics, and 12 music videos. I'm no fan of downloading music, generally, because I like to have the disc and packaging and so on; but by all accounts, this cd doesn't have much of a booklet included.

I highly suggest going to [...] and checking out the greatest hits page, they have the backstories of all the tracks on the album.

And for all Joan Jett fans, this Runaways Mercury Albums Anthology is a great addition to your collection ;)

Very nice album. It would have been nice to hear the original Runaway songs, but hey what can you do. It's still really nice to hear some newly recorded songs. The quality is really good and overall very satisfying.

Simply stated, Joan Jett is the Queen of Rock and Roll. This is a great compilation of Joan's music that inlcudes an ample amount of her hits and some lesser known gems. Of particular interest to long time Joan fans will be the remakes of two classic Runaways tunes School Days and You Drive Me Wild. If you are a newer fan of Joan's music this album is a great place to start your collection.

Joan Jett to me is the female chuck berry. not the same but the same feeling in it. she blows me away every time. this is a great cd at a great deal. if your anything like me you can listen to joan over and over again. her music never gets old and never gets burnt out or over played. crimson and clover is beautiful. the energy behind her music is off the hook and i cant get enough of activity grrrl. Also i love her version of everyday people.

This was an excellent buy! So glad I ordered it. Her music is as fresh and timeless as ever. AND IT KICKS BUTT! Awesome. Anyone with a little horsepower in their engine should go out and buy it. Immediately.

i really liked this album and i knew pretty much nothing about joan jett before i saw runaways. i bought this album after seeing the movie and hearing songs i liked. when i got the cds i was pleasantly surprised about that i actually knew some of the other songs on the album. songs that i liked but didn't pay attention to the artist. great greatest hits album.

A great, comprehensive overview of Joan Jett's hits and choice album cuts from her entire solo carrer. Nice vinyl pressing.
