I can readily understand the 1- and 2-star reviews assigned earlier because this was yet another example of someone (producer Rob Fraboni?) deciding what he personally determined to be his "Greatest Hits" to that point (1977 release on A&M SP 69923). In fact, he had 15 Billboard Pop Hot 100 charted singles to that stage in the U.S. (one song charted twice), and while they do provide 10, they also include three tracks that not only were not among his greatest hits (The Jealous Kind, I Think It's Going To Rain and Darling Be Home Soon), they weren't even the B-sides of any of his hits!

Good songs. But not under an album title such as that. And the ones they chose to omit were "greater" hits than many of those included! These are: She Came In Through The Bathroom Window, a # 30 Hot 100 in December 1969/January 1970 on A&M 1147; Midnight Rider, a # 27 Hot 100 in September/October 1972 on A&M 1370 billed as Joe Cocker With The Chris Stainton Band (but they DO include the # 56 Hot 100 flip, Woman To Woman - did Fraboni arbitrarily decide again that that was a "greater" hit?); Pardon Me Sir, a # 51 Hot 100 in February/March 1973 on A&M 1407; Put Out The Light, a # 46 Hot 100 in July 1974 on A&M 1539; and It's A Sin When You Love Somebody, listed as a # 5 Hot 100 "Follow Along" in February/March 1975 as the flip of You Are So Beautiful on A&M 1641 - his last hit for the label.

Some may argue that a "follow along" side is not to be included amongst the greatest hits - but then they obviate that argument by including an even lower "follow along" in Black-Eyed Blues! No consistency.

The tracks, with writers shown in brackets, are:
Side One
1. With A Little Help From My Friends (John Lennon & Paul McCartney) - 4:05 - # 68 December 1968 on A&M 9981

WHO doesn't like Joe Cocker? This is live I believe, and the female vocalist chorists complement him perfectly. I simply love it.

Always loved Joe Cocker and this was a AWESOME deal for his tunes. His rough voice is music to my ears.
