18 Kids is a beautiful work of art 8 years in the making.
The album kicks off with a casual cover of Steve Forbert's Romeo's Tune. This extremely catchy rhythm features a piano, one of the many instruments Urban can play. The second track is a remake of one of the songs off of his Love, Pain & The Whole Crazy Thing album, Got It Right This Time (The Celebration). This is my personal favorite on the entire album. He took this simple song and transformed it into just what the title indicates, a celebration. It starts out with just a keyboard, a drum machine, and vocals. Then electric guitar, percussion, and background vocals for harmony eventually join in. As each part comes in and adds to the song, it gradually builds up leading to a huge explosion of melody. The joy and happiness that this song is about is portrayed perfectly through the music, making it an instant hit and one of the best tracks on the album.
The next 16 tracks are a nice mix of billboard chart toppers. The entire album touches on a wide range of emotions. Listen to mind blowing guitar solos as in Stupid Boy, the soothing sound of solo piano in Tonight I Wanna Cry, a Celtic sounding I Told You So, the love ballad Making Memories Of Us, country-rock themes such as Days Go By, Somebody Like You, and Better Life, progressive rolling upbeat numbers such as Where The Blacktop Ends and Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me, and more!
As if this wasn't reason enough to love this album, the album case itself is quite a treat. The insert booklet is full of colorful photos of Keith, including all the covers of his albums and a few from his adolescence while the back of the booklet includes a personal message from him. Instead of the usual jewel case, the CD comes in a paper board cover that folds open to reveal some amazing photos of the entertainer taken from his latest tour. The paper board is at least 30% recycled material to help preserve the environment!
Overall, this album is superb! The lyrics of these songs are so simple yet they strike so deeply with many people. The passion that Keith Urban puts into his music really shows.

This greatest hits set based on the collection of tunes is a definite 5 stars.

What keeps it from getting 5 stars is that for some reason, presumably to keep times down and be able to add as many songs as possible, several songs were put on this album in their "Radio Edit" instead of the original album cut.

For many artists, this is a minor issue, but for Keith Urban music, that is simply not the case. The Radio edit of MOST of his music significantly changes that tune.

Thankfully, I have each of his albums, so it's a minor issue for me, but for someone that's getting KU music for the first time, they're really missing out on an incredible song(s).

That said, this is an incredible collection of music that includes some new stuff too. It's definitely worth a buy, but for the full song(s), plan on buying each individual album.

Keith Urban is the only artist (in any genre) whose albums I enjoy from beginning to end. Every track is great! This album is the best of the best. I actually was glad to get the radio remixes since they aren't on the other albums. Keith is a great song writer, singer and awesome guitarist. He's just the best. The videos are a great bonus too!

This is a terriffic compilation of Keith's best work. His music is truly inspirational and each song takes you back to the first time you heard it. I do wish it had the extended version of some of the songs...but the previous reviewer is right when they say the videos make up for it. This is an incredible buy and the price is phenomenal!

If you love Keith Urban , you will love this cd. I bought one for me and one for a gift for a family member.

This is the first Keith Urban CD I've ever bought but it won't be the last. I love his wholesome style. He has fun performing the music and that comes through. I've had the CD for about three weeks and I'm still listening to it.
I can't help but think when I'm listening to "I WANT TO LOVE SOMEBODY LIKE YOU" and "YOU SURE LOOK GOOD IN MY SHIRT" that he's singing right to his lovely wife Nicole.
If you're a fan of country music you should do yourself a favor and get this one!

If you are new to Keith Urban, here is the best way to know the extraordinary singer, musician and songwriter. This CD shows his progression over the last 8 years and lets you know the man and his music.

Throw in the DVD and really be blown away!

Wide variety of tunes-upbeat and optomistic, to introverted and self examinining. It's the type of album that, when it's in the car, you look forward to the drive to work. You'll always feel better after listening to these songs. Videos are good, but for a real treat, and insight into honesty and integrity in music, look to Livin' Right Now, the Keith Urban concert DVD.

It's as AUSSOME as everything else Keith does! Love the new version of "Got It Right This Time" and his version of "Romeo's Tune". I only wish that they had done the full versions of his songs rather than radio cuts...but the extra DVD of videos more than makes up for it!

Loved this CD. Great music and really great if you're a fan of Keith Urban. His musical talents are why he is currently so popular. He's the real deal!!!! Cute too . . .
