5.0 out of 5 stars Musical Genius
This concert was recoded 02/03/2006 at the House of Blues in Los Angeles (look out for the DVD coming soon).
Quik is on the stage with a live band of 12 elements, really talented dudes, expecially Robert "Fonksta" Bacon that on "Medley For A V" shines, in a real way!
If you like real Hip Hop, P-Funk at its finest, real music with instruments, you gotta buy...

3.0 out of 5 stars really good
i enjoyed this album. it's a hit&miss situation when i think of DJ Quik: on one hand he is a very slept Musical Producer/artist who has for the most part of his career rode shotgun in Dr.Dre''s shadow. on other hand he never really expanded his musical plate&got lumped as a certain type of artist&whatnot. folks on the real know there is more to Quik, but he hasn't always...

The sound is perfect, it's like being there.
PS: DJ Quik dedicates the song "Safe + Sound" to the memory of 2Pac, which used to listen to it when he was in jail.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly "musical" rapper - he's a legend, June 11, 2006
This review is from: Greatest Hits Live at the House of Blues (Audio CD)
Quik is one of the most underrated rappers out today. His beats are always well arranged and can actually be played by a band. Quik is a real musician. This album contains all his classics, with the exception of "You'z A Ganxta" played live with a 12 piece band. His set at the House of Blues in LA was unforgettable and this album commemorates it! Don't stop what you're doing Quik - the fans love you and highly appreciate your work!

Quik is one of the west coast musically talented and genius minds that helped put the west on the map . I'm a Quik fan since day one back in 1991 . This CD is like a ride down memory lane. with classic hits from the veteran himself. I strongly recommend it to all west coast and true DJ Quik Fans .

A true classic

5.0 out of 5 stars Get it for the live band, October 18, 2010
This review is from: Greatest Hits Live at the House of Blues (Audio CD)
I fell out of hip hop sometime in the late nineties and got into the older under pinnings samples of the music. James Brown was the main. Fast forward, here's a live hip hop release with a live backing band featuring Adam Deitch (dr), Erick "E.D." Coomes (bs), Adam "Shmeeans" Smirnoff(gtr), Sam Kininger (alto), Rashawn Ross (tpt), and Ryan Zoidis (tnr) knocking out a perfect performance under the still stabbing, yet smooth lyrical majesty that is DJ Quik. He picked about the best live band he could ever muster, members of the bands Lettuce and Soulive. Deitch shows his amazing groove with his signature funky style, complemented perfectly by ED on a driving bass dripping funk. They've been playing together since teen years, along with Shmeeans, Sam, and Ryan. I love this album. Highlights are Intro for Roger, Just Lyke Compton, Pitch in on a Party, The Bombudd, Safe+Sound, Do I Love Her, a stellar Quik's Groove, Get Up, Hand in Hand, We Still Party. Greatest hits, live band.

If you like this one, also check out releases from Lettuce. They're going to be the JB horns backing band in a couple weeks in Florida at the Bear Creek Music Festival.

3.0 out of 5 stars really good, June 16, 2006

i enjoyed this album. it's a hit&miss situation when i think of DJ Quik: on one hand he is a very slept Musical Producer/artist who has for the most part of his career rode shotgun in Dr.Dre''s shadow. on other hand he never really expanded his musical plate&got lumped as a certain type of artist&whatnot. folks on the real know there is more to Quik, but he hasn't always expanded his talents. this is the best step forward he has made in quite a while.a live band really hits the spot. the drumming, horns&the Guitar of Robert "Fonksta" Bacon is on point. someof the rapping&parts are hit&miss&i feel that the set could have dropped 4-5 cuts, but this is a really good collection. i do wonder at this stage of Quik's career if he has anything new left? because when you drop a Greatest Hits live set after just releasing a new album without much fanfare you gotta wonder if a Audeince is still gonna give this Man his duethe big question does he still have that drive in him? this collection is the best thing he has released since the 90's started, but what does it mean in the bigger picture??

2.0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money !!!, June 22, 2006
This review is from: Greatest Hits Live at the House of Blues (Audio CD)
This Cd is nothing but Quik buying time before his next studio release and trying to suck every dollar out of you possible. Most fans of Quik probably have most of his cd's already, making this disc worthless(even to newcomers). If you are looking for a good disc that covers Quik's career, buy The Best of:The Finale. Its a better and more complete collection of songs and its NOT LIVE!The only reason this disc recieved two stars was for the track selection.
