5.0 out of 5 stars Back In The New York Groove!
As a HUGE Ace fan I am always so excited when new material surfaces and went out to buy this on Tuesday when it came out. The 3D cover is AWESOME!! The Amazon website just cannot do it justice. 3.0 out of 5 stars Ace Frehley; Greatest Hits recycled.
I would recommend this album only if you don't have any previous Ace Freyley or Freyley's Comet albums. This material is from previous releases. The songs are pulled from "Live Plus 1, Loaded Deck and 12 picks. Nothing new or first released here. I suspect this was nothing more than a contract obligation from Ace's former label: megaforce records.

The best part is that Megaforce used 2 covers, the 3D one and a 'normal' one underneath so you can frame the amazing 3D photo of Ace in action without messing up the look of the CD! COOL!! Ace is just an amazing musician live and this album really captures him at his most rockin'. Stand out tracks have to be "Rip It Out" and my personal favorite, "NY Groove". This album really takes you back to the good ole days of rock 'n' roll. Legendary stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars why was this even released?, August 31, 2006
This review is from: Greatest Hits Live (Audio CD)
first off, the cd gets 5 stars for the music of ACE that's featured on the cd BUT I just don't get why this was released since it has the same songs found on the two best of ACE CDs=Loaded Deck & 12 Picks...It's only good to get if you have all the Ace solo cds from the 80's..But if you are looking for THE BEST OF ACE=both with hits, studio tracks and live stuff, then buy BOTH 12 picks and Loaded Deck...just makes no sense having this out with the other two best of's already released..

4.0 out of 5 stars Good collection of live songs from Ace Frehley's solo career, May 20, 2006
By
This review is from: Greatest Hits Live (Audio CD)
Ever since I have been a die hard KISS fan,I have always loved Ace Frehley's guitar playing, and it is a shame that Frehley is no longer a member of KISS (especially after KISS' long-awaited reunion which happened in 1996). However, while it may be sad that Ace Frehley is no longer with KISS and a tad pit pathetic as to how it has taken Frehley over ten years to release his new studio solo album,"Ace Frehley--Greatest Hits Live" is a good album that is worth owning. Most of the live tracks on here (according to what the liner notes of this record say)come from a concert that Ace did with one of his post KISS bands (Frehley's Comet)in England,at which Ace's fellow Comet bandmates (John Regan,Tod Howarth, and Jamie Oldaker)were accompanying Ace in his performance (the only live tracks on here that aren't from the concert in England are "Strangers in a Stange Land" and "Rock Soldiers",which were recorded in Chicago and find Ace performing live alongside John Regan,Tod Howarth, and Anton Fig). The live tracks that are on here sound good--Ace Frehley gave some good guitar work and singing to the live performances of songs that were included on this record, and his band members sounds in top form,as well. I also like the two previously unreleased solo songs from Ace that are on this CD,"One Plus One" and "Give it to me Anyway",which are both catchy and well written songs ("Give it to me anyway" even has Peter Criss performing on it as a guest,as well as former/current Skid Row band members Sebastian Bach,Dave Sabo, and Rachel Bolan),while the limited edition 3-D cover that is accompanying this CD (it shows Ace performing at one of his solo concerts, holding up his smoking Jackson guitar)looks really cool and is a collector's item. My only complaint is that most of the songs that are performed live here are actually KISS songs, which leaves some (but not enough)room for Ace's solo material to be on this CD with this album being issued as a single disc (I would have preferred a two disc set here,to even out live performances of KISS songs and live performances of Ace's solo material),yet everything else here is fine. Hopefully Ace will put out his new studio solo record in the near future, and if you miss the days from when Ace was still with KISS and happen to be one of the several guitarists out there who was inspired to play guitar by Ace himself, this CD will serve as a nice treat for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Ace Frehley Lead Guitar", February 12, 2006

The title says it all, "Greatest Hits Live"...and what you see is what you get. Ace performing all his best from his years with Kiss and his minimal output solo career. Some of the performances are far from stellar, hence the 4 instead of 5 star rating. Ace's guitar work on the Kiss songs included here are not quite up to to par with the recordings on "Alive!" and "Alive II" (if you do not have the remastered versions of the first 2 "Alive" albums definitely get those first). His guitar seems slightly out of tune and the tone is not as threatening as in days gone by. But hey, a mediocre Frehley performance is still better than most! The album sounds great with Ace's guitar right up front in the mix. Plus, you can not argue with the track selection, every song is great. Gotta love the killer 3-D cover too!!! This album is pretty much a must purchase for any longtime Kiss fan. Ace "is" the sound of Kiss and this album does not disappoint. I sure hope Ace gives us some new studio recordings in the near future. ****By the way, I usually recommend hitting zShops to save some cash, but because of the Limited Edition 3-D Cover, get this one now while you can!!!****

Ace had quite a musical career ;guitarist for KISS ,made his band frehley`comet.Yeah he released 12 picks already and loaded deck but this is LIVE!Yet i dont think that he made something similiar of his solo career.

You dont need to ask yourself if this is good its Ace!CMON!His hits are here, live it isnt like the compilation this time its live, classic stuff like new york groove is here as well as frehley`s comet stuff and kiss classics like `deuce`and `cold gin`.

The 3d cover looks great.Ace fans should get this Ace is awesome but the only way he sounds better than studio records is to see him live or hear him live. You feel like you were there!Recomended to KISS and Ace`s fans.

Space with Ace

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice package. High quality vinyl, March 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Greatest Hits Live [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
I'm doing a review for the vinyl picture discs issue of Ace Frehley's Greatest Hits Live.

The package is very nice and is pressed onto some pretty thick, high quality vinyl. At least 180 gram. Pics on each disc are really cool looking. If you're a collector, like I am, then don't hesitate on this one. It's not all that easy to locate to begin with and the free S&H from Amazon makes it a great deal.

2.0 out of 5 stars unnecessary release, October 17, 2009

actually this is a rip off, commercialy spoken and I regret buying it, too hastily, eager waiting for new material, which it isn't. Not even the packaging is new. Before 2 compilationalbums were released, "12 Picks" and "Loaded Deck" and all the songs stem from those compilations. Earlier an original band live EP (on vinyl) has seen the daylight "4 + 1", four live tracks and a new studiotrack. They are already present on the aforementioned compilations. So why this album? Finally despite its title not all songs are from live performances: "One plus one" and "Give it to me anyway" are just plain studiorecordings. So nothing is gained by releasing or buying an album like this. Stick to "12 Picks" and/or "Loaded Deck" CDs and you have all the goods. Only for those who cannot afford these other CDs might it have to offer a bit.

A good feel for a live recording. Ace is back on tour and it would be a good review of his solo projects.
