Time to Mend the Fences,
By Cal and Helen "Know-it-alls" (San Jose, Ca USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Greatest Hits Live (Audio CD)
I am a huge War fan. The band is responsible for some of the greatest albums ever - the 3 headed monster that is "All Day Music", "The World is a Ghetto", and "Deliver the Word" rivals the greatest output of ANY other band in the history of music. I also think that Lonnie Jordan is a musical genius; check out his recent solo work "War Stories". But this album just does not work. Lonnie is leading a band of very capable musicians, but he needs direction and focus - the sort that would come from a reunion with the rest of War (now going under the name the Lowrider Band). Mr Jordan spends much of this double cd chatting over the tunes; this would be great if both the band and the audience was all over 85 years old and waiting for the next bingo game to get going, but it just fails here. If you want to hear the real War just killing (in a good way) some of the greatest songs ever in concert then pick up "War Live". If you want to hear the brilliant but misguided Mr Jordan killing (in the worst way) some of those same great songs then pick up this remarkably unnecessary and uninspired cd. But for all you true believers out there let us hope that Lonnie, Howard, B.B., Harold, and Lee (r.i.p. Papa Dee Allen and the great Charles Miller) can set aside their differences/feud/whatever the hell it is that is keeping them apart and join together once more to make some of the greatest music ever! Come on, guys, you can do this! You owe it to your fans; you owe it to yourselves, you owe it to MUSIC.

A missed opportunity !,

I was excited to hear new and extended versions of War tunes by a talented remake of the band. Instead we are given an extended ridiculous monologue by Lonnie. What a shame. Buy 1 of their prior live recordings but stay away from this.

Stop Talking,
By Robert Lanxner (Millsboro, Pa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Greatest Hits Live (Audio CD)
Please stop talking throughout every song and prior to every song. I was really looking forward to hearing this great band perform their best live. Instead I find the disk unlistenable because of the constant rant and batter through almost every song. Please just sing!
