4.0 out of 5 stars Strong But Incomplete
Lorrie Morgan was one of the more popular female artists during country's early-to-mid-nineties heyday, though she never quite reached the level of fellow artists Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood or later, Shania Twain or Faith Hill. The blame seems to lie not nearly as much with the music as the offstage drama that seemed to constantly accompany her. Which is a shame,...

2.0 out of 5 stars What happened to cut 9?
This is a nice enough collection of Lorrie's hits, but on the CD I recently purchased, cut 9 is labled as "Don't Worry Baby" with the Beach Boys but the song is actually "Standing Tall". The MP3 download on Amazon appears to be the same way. Should have checked all the Amazon samples before buying the CD!

Which is a shame, considering that Morgan's voice had alot of the country elements found in classic singers like Tammy Wynette--Patty Loveless and Lee Ann Womack are the only other contemporary females who have that decidedly "country" sound in their vocal work. That said, this first compilation squanders some opportunities--several of her first-rate singles are here('Five Minutes','Something in Red'), and she recorded the best Wynette song not recorded by Wynette in 'A Picture Of You(Without Me)'. But there's also several omissions, chiefly the superb 'Out Of Your Shoes' and the equally great 'We Both Walk'. And of the three new tracks, only 'Standing Tall' is in direct correlation with Morgan's talents--both 'I Didn't Know My Own Strength' and the shuffling 'Back In Your Arms Again' squander her vocal skills. Overall, the preponderance of strong material manages to offset the lesser songs and the set's incomplete nature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Career Retrospective, May 1, 2001
This review is from: Greatest Hits: Lorrie Morgan (Audio CD)
Greatest Hits highlights some of the greatest moments in Lorrie's career. Her beautiful voice is distinct and original, it is unlike any other. The hits on this collection include Five Minutes, Dear Me, Except For Monday, A Picture Of Me (Without You), Watch Me, Something In Red, Dont Worry Baby, What Part of No, and some new tracks. Of those included are Back In Your Arms Again, I Didnt Know My Own Strength, and a remake of the Keith Whitley song as a duet Til A Tear Becomes A Rose. You must get this cd if you are looking for one of country greatest singers, this is her and these are just a few of her hits.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Best, July 21, 2002
This review is from: Greatest Hits: Lorrie Morgan (Audio CD)
I have to agree with one of the reviewers that said that Lorrie sings with a passion that not every artist possesses, this is true. GREATEST HITS includes some of her biggest hits and some new tracks as well. I believe Lorrie always has possessed a spunk and exhuberance that most artists don't, as well she shows a tender side on her ballads. "Five Minutes" and "Except For Monday" show a spunk in the lyrics that she handles extremely well. The same could be said about the tongue in cheek song "Watch Me". Probably one of her most memorable songs is the ballad "Something In Red" which became one of her biggest hits and instantly a classic. She also does a duet with her late husband Keith Whitley on "Til A Tear Becomes a Rose". Some new tracks include the 60-ish "Back In Your Arms Again", very reminiscent of Beach Boys type music. My favorite though is "I Didn't Know My Own Strength", a upbeat inspirational song about picking up the pieces after a relationship has failed, and moving on, not knowing you had the strength to do it. Overall this is a good set to own, a more complete collection is her 2000 collection TO GET TO YOU, but this is worth it for the new tracks, and other hits which didn't make the other compilation.

All of the songs are top notch including the new ones: "Standing Tall", "I Didn't Know My Own Strength", and "Back In Your Arms Again". There is even a song that she duets with late husband Keith Whitley, "Til' A Teardrop Becomes A Rose". You won't go wrong with this set of fabulous music.
