5.0 out of 5 stars Lulu just keeps getting better
Lulu has got to be one of the most repackaged artists in pop music. Compilation after compilation has been released.
Well, finally we have one that includes the best of her early hits, 70's recorings, and the best work of her long career: the 90's and 2000's
Included from the 60's: Shout, To Sir With Love (She's a woman with two signature songs), The Boat...

3.0 out of 5 stars As great as these hits can be...
I like Lulu and bought this solely for a remastered "To Sir with Love". She's done plenty of interesting stuff beyond this 60's top-40 hit. How much you appreciate her other work will be a matter of taste; something that is lacking is some of the cuts in this collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lulu just keeps getting better, September 6, 2006
This review is from: The Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Lulu has got to be one of the most repackaged artists in pop music. Compilation after compilation has been released.
Well, finally we have one that includes the best of her early hits, 70's recorings, and the best work of her long career: the 90's and 2000's
Included from the 60's: Shout, To Sir With Love (She's a woman with two signature songs), The Boat That I Row, and the arguable Boom Bang-A-Bang (even she has to be sick of that one, but it did win her the Eurovision contest, so for a career retrospecive I guess it has to be included.)
The 70's are represented by her top 40 hit Oh Me Oh My, her colaboration with David Bowie, The Man Who Sold The World, the Bond theme The Man With The Golden Gun, and the brilliant I Could never Miss You (More Than I Do). The later taken from the late 70's Alfa Records album "LULU", song for song the best album she had released up to that point. But the best was yet to come.
The 90's saw her reemergence as a dance DIVA with the hits Independance, and Relight My Fire (with Take That, and landing at the top of the UK charts). One of her first attemps at songwriting, I Dont Want To Fight, is a fantastic recoring, and was later a huge hit for Tina Turner. That success led to more song writing and the best work of her career.
The work she has done in the new millennium has proven she is still a force to be reckoned with. The dance singles Where The Poor Boys Dance and Hurt Me So Bad outshine anything turned out by today's top female singers. The fact that problems with the record label resulted in only the two singles being released and the album being shelved is a shame (we can only hope that someday we will hear those remaining songs).
Her duets cd "Together" is represented here with collaborations with Elton John, and Sting. Her duet with Ronan Keating on We've Got Tonight is a beautiful and powerful vocal.
This collection ends with a sweet duet with former husband Maurice Gibb, First Of May, recorded live shortly before his death.
There is a 2 disk version available that containes a great DVD of Videos of most of the songs. The DVD is in the PAL format but for those with access to a region free DVD player it is well worth the extra cost.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love Lulu's music, February 25, 2007

This review is from: The Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Lulu is one of my favorite singers because she can sing so many differnet musical genres (pop, rock, soul, dance) and her voice is as soulful and powerful as ever.

This excellent compilation gathers Lulu's biggest hits from all eras of her career. From the '60s, you get her 1967 smash, "To Sir With Love"; from the '70s, you get her unique collaboration with David Bowie, "The Man Who Sold The World"; from the '90s, you get her duet with Take That on "Relight My Fire" and her fab dance hit "Hurt Me So Bad"; and from the '00s, you get her duet with Ronan Keating on "We've Got Tonight".

There's not a bad song here, and you will be surprised to hear how Lulu's voice simply gets better with age. I love this compilation so much that I never get tired of hearing it. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Career Spanning Lulu Hits CD, November 22, 2007
This review is from: The Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This CD spans Lulu's career featuring most of her biggest hits from 1964 to today. Lulu can belt out a sassy soul number like SHOUT as a teenager, sing her behind off on OH ME OH MY [ I'M A FOOL FOR YOU BABY ], rock out on Bowie's THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD, and sing one great tune after another. This CD features a lot of her 90's to 2000's songs , which is different than other Lulu compilations. My favorite on here is the live version of The Bee Gees' FIRST OF MAY sung with Maurice Gibb. It's touching and real, and you can hear the meaning of this song clearly struck a personal chord with them.

My CD came with a DVD featuring a late 60's live THE BOAT THAT I ROW, and excerpts from her UK TV special " An Evening With Lulu ", which is great to have. Being a US fan, we didn't get all the many TV appearances that Lulu has done in the UK. So, great to get this if you can with the bonus DVD.

This collection of Lulu tunes cover her career. It's amazing when one of the '60s performers manages to continue to have hits for all these years. Great collection, nicely priced. Great singer. Has all her hit songs.

I had heard bits and pieces of this record. All at once this is a lot of Lulu to listen to. Works well in my itunes mix, though.
