5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Band of the 80's?
THey have my vote. NKOTB has been my favorite band from 6th grade on. 3.0 out of 5 stars Better than 99% of today's music
I'm not much of a fan of New Kids, but I have to admit, they ARE pretty good compared to whatever passes for music these days. If a was old enough to remember the 80s (and I'm not, I was born in 1984), I probably would have hated the New Kids. But today's music is so appaulingly bad, so incredibly horrible, that they would make New Kids on the Block look like geniuses...

New Kid's music is so heartfelt and pure, and the lyrics turned out to be really ahead of their time. Though the newest teens bands have had recent success, NKOTB's music I predict will prove to be timeless. The best thing about it is that you can listen to it on any occasion, depending on your mood. I would listen to step by step as a teen, and now working on Wall Street I slip in Hanging Tough when the market is not going my way. I recommend tis CD to any "true" music fan, as it deserves to in the collection of everyone and anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for Nostalgia, August 19, 2000
I remember the good ole days...when pop music was poppy and boy bands were...well their was only one boy band and it was called New Kids On The Block. I was in love with their music and thought Jordan Knight was "a major babe", that was when I was in the fourth grade. I would watch the Hangin Tough video and dance along with the boys. I would watch the Right Stuff video and I would be so envious of the girls in the video...I wanted to be in their position. But what about their talent? Well when I received this CD two weeks ago as a gift, I was hesitant...after all I remember in 1993-4 when the "NKOTB" went hard-core, it burst my little junior high bubble and I vowed never to like them again. I immediately tore down all the posters, buttons, dolls, apparel, blankets, etc. My little heart was crushed. In the coming years I did not want to talk about the New Kids because I felt so embarrased by their sudden change. That memory came back when I went to play the CD. With my Jewel, DMB, and Alanis albums, the New Kids seemed so odd and out of place. I immediately wanted to hear Step by Step. The BEST song they ever performed. I loved it back then and to my surprise, I still love it to this day. It is the one song where their vocals are solid and strong, not faded or weak like in the others. I love the musical arrangement of the strings, it really helped them as opposed to the synthiser sounds of "I'll be loving you forever" I saw that "Tonight" was on the CD, and I could not place that song in my memory, yet I remember I absolutely loved that song. I loved that song like kids like the lame N'Sync songs of today...I played the song and the chorus consisted of "Tonight...Tonight...Tonight...Tonight" I fell to the floor in laughter, how could that lack of solid lyrics be one of my favorites? The rest of the song, like the main depth of the New Kids songs, were cliche and trite lyrics, but it made an 8 year old girl very happy at the time... So why I would not give 5 stars to the albums sheer talent and great sound, I rate it 5 stars for the sheer memories of loving my first celebrity crush.

I cant believe I have grown old...I remember these songs..I even went to a NKOTB concert ha ha ha..Kinda funny, I won't admit that in person though ..wink wink

Great CD to bring back some memories, I don't remember some of the other songs, but those songs are towards the end of their career.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I used to love New Kids on the Block, but when I got older I threw out all my old tapes. I was very excited to see they had a greatest hits cd. The older stuff is great. I was pleased it was on there. But there is just a little too much of their newer stuff on the album that I could have done without. All in all though, if you were a fan, I recommend buying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars NKOTB; Still hangin' tough after all these years, September 16, 2005
I'm still a huge NKOTB fan. I remember rockin' out to NKOTB in college. I'd play "Hangin' Tough" to get fired up before basketball games. And "Love Bites" by Def Leppard, too. Clearly the Wahlberg's are talented guys. And it was AWESOME seeing Joey McIntyre on that dance show this summer. Joey, you were robbed, my man! You rock.

Anyway, buy this album. Still cool, still rox!

5.0 out of 5 stars Still makes me sing and dance, March 18, 2004
By A Customer
You know, I've grown up a great deal since my room was covered in New Kids posters and paraphanilia...and my taste in music has changed quite a bit. Somehow I still enjoy this music. Whether that be because it was the music of my childhood or because it's pure pop (catchy, dancy, cheesy, but you still listen, and enjoy it despite yourself...) That is the epitomy of this album, liking it despite yourself and your current musical tastes. I highly reccomend buying this album, even if you only listen when you're by yourself in the car!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good that somebody still remembered, October 24, 1999
By
It is good that somebody still remembered this artist who has been split for nearly five years before the release of this record. All of its fourteen tracks are indeed the best that this band can perform, and I like all the tracks including even those which are remixes. The best one of the remixes is the one that is for Cover Girl. Unfortunately this item isn't available at shops in the country where I live in, but thank god we have Amazon so that I can order even this kind of gorgeously sounding rarities.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Kids Were KINGS, April 13, 2000
By A Customer
Let's face it, The New Kids are the most successful boy band no matter what anyone says. I remembered the total mass hysteria. They were even on Oprah and the Backsteet Boys and Nsync have yet to appear on that show. But anyway, yeah I admit, I was emarassed to buy it too, but when I finally did purchase it, and popped it in the CD player, all those old mememories started pouring in. I felt like I was 10 and 11 again. And even though a long time has passed since I've heard any of their music, I still knew the lyrics. I'm pretty sure, everyone-even the ones who hate them know the words to the "Right Stuff". It was just so catchy and you gotta love the dance. Of course, "Please Don't Go Girl" will always be my fave. And I'm so glad it's here. "Didn't I Blow Your Mind" is a great song too. They KIDS made it their own. It's a great remake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, October 17, 2001
By A Customer
This CD has all my favorite ballads by the New Kids such as "Please Don't Go Girl," "I'll Be Loving You Forever," "Let's Try It Again," "Baby I Believe In You," "If You Go Away," etc.
The only ballad missing that I wish was on it is "Where Do I Go From Here."
There are great ballads on here as well as more upbeat Pop classics such as "Hangin' Tough," "The Right Stuff," "Step By Step," etc.
This is a great CD for original fans like me ("Blockheads"), new fans, and anyone who just wants to take a trip down memory lane back into Pop music of the 80's and 90's.
The New Kids were popular in the late 80's/early 90's when I was in highschool. They were the 'NSYNC and Backstreet Boys of that time.
