Review

Considering that this was a release that was one of my least anticipated releases of this year, Greatest Hits Remixed ultimately will probably rank as one of the best archival releases of the year it s that good. --Popdose.com

The packaging is great
- the dedication to Rik Emmett's late brother a very nice touch.

The CD - can be re-named Triumph-The Drum remixes.
-These songs were re-mixed over the years when the drummer and
guitarist were not speaking to each other, and they were re-done
at the studios owned by the drummer.

So while the clarity of the tracks seems better, on many songs the
drums are annoyingly amped up and the guitar pushed to the back.

The DVD - I was first introduced to this band by MTV back in the 80's.

The band is apparently too embarrassed by those videos, so they replaced
them with cuts from their other releases; Live at the US Festival, and
Night of Triumph live, and other live footage.

I've hoped for years they would release a video package and was
very disappointed to find out the videos that made me a fan were
not included.

Love this band, always have and I've seen them live and they always put on a great show despite the Spandex. Rik Emmett is one the finest guitarists ever.
But damn, what is up with this debacle? The drums are mixed beyond enjoyment. They are painful, horrid and gated and sound like giant turds being beaten.
Hard to believe this was OK'd by the band but apparantly it was. Richard Chycki should be ashamed. Was this to make the band sound hip and modern? Please.
Also, some tracks are missing that are no-brainers and same for the videos-so many are missing.
The packaging is very nice and the overall presentation is too, but man, the remixes are atrocious, especially the drums.
2 stars for the missing songs, videos and the poopy drums. Otherwise it would've been 5 stars easily.
I'd also add the DVD is very disappointing. Missing videos are: "Movin' On", "American Girls", "Magic Power" (both versions), "Say Goodbye", "Allied Forces", "Fight The Good Fight", "A World Of Fantasy" and "Mind Games". We get inferior live versions of "Magic Power" from 1987, and a 3 minute shortened clip of "Allied Forces" from the US Festival '83-very lame and pretty insulting.
Who knows what they were thinking-they said some videos were too cheesy? They're all cheesy! Who cares?
Bottom line-they really screwed this up-but it still has some things that any fan would want. Just nowhere near enough. And man, "Love Hurts" is wretched-worse than a Bea Arthur nude poster.

Obviously, different people have different opinions on what they're looking for in a greatest hits package. For some, this is perfect. For others, despite the great job they did on it and the great quality, it's a little lacking. I fall in the latter category.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great cd/dvd set and full of great music, re-mastered superbly. Triumph were always pioneers in the studio, and still are to this day. What they did with the music is great. Sure, you'll never get every song you think should be on there, that just seems to be the way. One pet peeve I have is it always seems to be the one song you bought the cd for, they put the live version of it on the cd. I totally prefer the studio tracks when it comes to a best of collection. For the live tracks, I'll buy the live album. Again, that's me. Thankfully, they didn't do that here!!!

So far, so good. Where's the problem? I'm a completist. I was very excited when I learned this package was going to be released. Finally, all those MTV videos you couldn't find and hadn't seen in years, would be on one convenient disc. Not quite so. Missing are "Movin' On", "Say Goodbye", "A World Of Fantasy", "Allied Forces" (original MTV video), and if memory serves, there was a different (original) version of Magic Power. This version included is from the US Festival dvd, which I already have. I didn't want some of their videos or alternates, I wanted all of them. Yeah, some of these are on Youtube, but it's not the same thing.

So, while it's a great package of great quality, which I'd give 4.5 stars for the cd, I feel the dvd falls a bit short. I still recommend it, there's some rare stuff on the dvd that makes it totally worth it. But, I wanted the other videos as well. I guess I have to go back to hoping they'll be released on some other Triumph cd/dvd release.

I am happy that Triumph released a remixed Greatest Hits package. In addition to the remastering and improved engineering, the remixing brought the vocals out front and each track now has a cleaner sound. Particularly on "Follow Your Heart" and "Somebody's Out There". Both songs sound like fresh new recordings.

I had purchased the "Triumph Classics" collection earlier and was disappointed with the sound quality. When this package was released I was happy they included a DVD of their MTV-era videos however the only reason I did not give this 5 stars is that the collection did not include all of the original tracks off of "The Classics" compilation, most obviously "Tears In the Rain" off of the "Sport of Kings" LP. Instead we have Triumph's cover of "Love Hurts".

I would love to see Rik, Mike & Gil do one more world tour, perhaps to back up a new album, however it doesn't look like it will happen. In the meantime, enjoy this compilation and the 80s era DVD. It brings back great memories!
