5.0 out of 5 stars MM Still The Goddess
At first I could not believe this. Greatest Hits? Remixed? Stil, out of curiosity, I bought it expecting a laugh a la Ethel Merman's Disco Album. Well, I guess its good to start with low expectations, because I was blown away by this delightful, spellbinding tribute to the timeless Screen Goddess. Well I guess it was my fault. A glass of wine, a wireless laptop and a comfy lounge = seriously impaired judgement. I bought this CD on a whim. I'm a great fan of remix albums, love Marilyn Monroe and thought I had found something fabulous. Sadly I must disagree with the other reviews. This CD is atrocious. Yep, they're remixes. Bad ones. What amazed me the most was how natural MM's voice sounds in the updated remixes. These modern sounds fit her like a glove. Sure it sounds campy, but Marilyn makes it work. Standouts are Diamonds, and My Heart Belongs to Daddy. The one low point is the 6 minute version of Happy Birthday. Still, it is my favourite CD in months (and I have bought many, including Barbra's Guilty Pleasures and Madonna's Confessions.) Long live Marilyn and long live camp!

I'm a great fan of remix albums, love Marilyn Monroe and thought I had found something fabulous. Sadly I must disagree with the other reviews. This CD is atrocious. Yep, they're remixes. Bad ones. No way in the world will you hear these surface at any club/dance party. Bad, bad, bad. If you were thinking "Verve Remixed 1 & 2", this is nothing like the calibre of those CD's. Full price + overseas freight + anxious wait = BIG disappointment. CD's like this justify illegal downloading.

I love this CD because the music is so dynamic and rich and is an excellent compliment to Marilyn's voice. A couple of tracks could have been done more imaginatively, but most of them are a lot of fun. I hope that this inspires other DJs to take a crack at remixing her songs as I think this CD shows that there is potential for some really incredible stuff to be done. Her voice doesn't sound dated at all and she could have been recorded yesterday.

4.0 out of 5 stars Marilyn Monroe strikes again!, September 11, 2005

It is amazing that after Marliyn's death decades ago, people are still trying to create new marketing ideas for the blonde diva.
Some of the remixes are good and it is a shame that we will probably not hear them in any club soon.
Can you imagine the cheers that will create among the attendees of a dance club, if all the sudden, out of surprise Marilyn's voice and an up-to-date mix appears in the playlist of a dance club?

Bought it for a friend who is a die-hard fan of Marilyn Monroe and I knew he was eager to have this CD. So I bought it and he's thrilled. He loves the sound. I also listened to some of the tracks and have to say they are very inspired and inspiring. Marilyn Monroe in a new electro-gown. Some tracks are more dance-oriented, some have more "trippy" production. My friend recommends and so do I!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent contemporary arrangements, March 30, 2009
This review is from: Greatest Hits Remixed (Audio CD)
Yes, this CD is made of remixes and in the spirit of what a remix is, they're actually re-mixing of the vocals with a totally different music.

Marilyn's voice lends itself for the sultry chill-out ambience, like in 'Like a woman should' or 'Some like it hot'. Also the bubbly dance tune of 'Diamonds' or 'Heart belongs to daddy'. Britney, more than Madonna, has tried to emulate that whisper-y tone of singing, but Marilyn really personifies it and this CD shows that. A great example of what sounds like a current pop-charters is 'You've surprised' sounds like something out of Kylie Minogue's catalogue.

My faves are 'Diamonds', I wanna be loved', 'Heart belongs to daddy'. On the flip side 'Happy birthday' couldn't been done better, the remix gets repetitive and unnecessarily long.

All in all a great way to introduce Miss Monroe to younger audiences.

While there are one or two reasonably good remixes; most though are generally electronic drum beats behind some of the original backing. Some are just down right bad! The creativity level is fairly low! It's kind of worth it for the novelty value, certainly not to be taken seriously.

Marilyn's original vocal tracks are almost always remixed way to the back of these tracks, with the club-beats pushed to the front. After a while, all you will hear are the drum-beats. The shame of it is that it would be interesting to hear her voice without the original instrumentation (all those 1950's violins and saxophones). But what we get here will bore you on the second listen.
