The best of an ordinary selction of Sailor compilations,
By
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
As a fan of Sailor, pretty well for the duration of the bands tenure (30 years), I've been consistently frustrated with the disapointing catalogue available of the bands music, including complilation albums/cd's. This effort, which seems to be regurgitated every now and then, is no exception, but is probably the best of the 'ordinary' lot. When I say ordinary, I'm not referring to the bands refreshing brand of theatre/art rock ( a sort of Roxy Music, Sparks, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel and Beach Boys hybrid), but rather the disapointing efforts record companies have gone to at putting together a truly representative selection of the bands varied and lengthy career. There's nothing on this album from the bands last album together as a foursome at the end of the first span of their careers together ("Hideaway"), nor much from the resurgent period of the early 1990's to mid 1990's. For my mind, anyone wanting to appreciate the unique phenomen of Sailor's music would be better off trying to track down the excellent first self titled album, released way back in 1974.

Sailor Collection That Gets Close To Perfection,
By
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This band is frequently compiled but no collection has really hit the spot. This misses tracks from Hideaway but does include tracks from Dressed For Drowning - a soft pop classic that will remind you of Renaissance during their Timeline and Camera Camera period. Worth the price for these tracks alone.

Sailor Greatest Hits,
By
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
at just shy of 50 Sailor was a band that I listened to when I was young. Girls, Girls, Girls everyone knows, what I like is that Sailor has a sound that goes on. My particular favourite is Quay Hotel, with a mystical feeling, but all Sailor's songs evoke feelings of a seaman longing fro home but also wanting to enjoy their time ashore...
