Best Blue Collection, May 5, 2009

Shocking Blue is one of those almost forgotten artists in the history of music that deserves our attention. You have heard "Venus," and perhaps "Mighty Joe." But this disc includes a number of other great songs such as "Inkpot" and "Sally," and the bonus track "Love Buzz." In fact, even though this is not longest collection of Shocking Blue's songs, I feel it is the best because it covers their best singles and album cuts. It is well worth a listen.

How this band wound up being a "one-hit-wonder" is really a shame. Both for the legacy of Shocking Blue and for all the people who are missing out on the creative and catchy tunes by this Dutch powerhouse. Mariska Veres' strong and unique vocals are not the only thing carrying this band. Song writing is generally excellent, as is the band backing her up. If you like "Venus", you will enjoy the rest of this greatest hits collection. And you can be sure, there many more album-track-treasures that aren't included here. I really love finding dust-covered gems like this!!
