Great Southern Soul from an Underrated Talent,

This review is from: Greatest Hits: The Spring Years, 1970-1977 (Audio CD)
THE SPRING YEARS is an almost-perfect Joe Simon compilation documenting his most successful years with the Polydor-distributed Spring Records. The sound is great and the liner notes are pretty detailed. However, Simon's last top 20 r&b hit is missing (1978's "Love Vibration") while "You Don't Have To Play No Games" is here although it stalled at #62 on the r&b charts. Had "Games" been replaced by "Vibration", this compilation would have included all of Simon's top-20 r&b hits with Spring.

I bought the CD as a gift for my father. He can't listen to it enough. It's a great day when one can find true classic r&b albums at their finger tips. (And the price isn't anything to sneeze at for an added bonus.)
