5.0 out of 5 stars Supreme ear candy
Ok, ok, this is almost a duplicate from her 2000 best of, right down to the cover photos... except this time the picture that was on the front is now on back and vice versa...
This time around we get 18 songs, no "megamixes" (filler, like last time). The songs added on this go 'round are "Will You Marry Me" (why yes, Paula, I will), "One or the Other", and "Ain't...

2.0 out of 5 stars Songs are not full length versions
You are probably better getting the albums "Forever Your Girl" and "Spellbound" to get the full length versions (not single versions on this CD) of her #1 hits, in particular my favorite, "Opposites Attract."

Ok, ok, this is almost a duplicate from her 2000 best of, right down to the cover photos... except this time the picture that was on the front is now on back and vice versa...
This time around we get 18 songs, no "megamixes" (filler, like last time). The songs added on this go 'round are "Will You Marry Me" (why yes, Paula, I will), "One or the Other", and "Ain't never Gonna Give You Up".
Right from the get go, these songs leap out of the speakers and are just in your face. The production is busy, lots of things to pick out and latch onto with each listen, but the important thing is you can dance to it.
And then there's Paula her self... Ah. The greatest voice in the world? No, but perfect for these songs. What she lacks in technique, she makes up for in spunk, very infectious.
These songs are as catchy as a cold. Even if you can't stand her, I bet you know at least a dozen of these sonic bon-bons.
She is Paula! She will not be denied!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Straight Up! Is Right..., June 5, 2007
This review is from: Greatest Hits: Straight Up! (Audio CD)
If you don't have one or the other of her greatest hits releases, get this one. Not only are there more songs and less filler, but the sound quality is better. It looks like in the seven years between greatest hits packages, some sonic wizardry has happened.

Paula has just never sounder better. I figure this release is to capitalize on her American Idol role, and smart of her to do so, but there is more here for the dollar as well. SO sell your old one and give this version a spin. I think if you have the least interest in her, you and your toes will be happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, the Real Hits Package, May 9, 2007

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Greatest Hits: Straight Up! (Audio CD)
This is the all inclusive Greatest Hits package that Paula fans have been waiting for! This one improves on the 2000 release by leaps and bounds. Gone are the awful "R&B Remix" of "My Love Is For Real" and the time wasting "Megamix Medley"... and in its place are "Will You Marry Me?" (a top-20 hit), "One or the Other", "Ain't Never Gonna Give You Up" (the extremely catchy but largely ignored final single of Abdul's career), and "It's All About Feeling Good" (which should have also been a radio hit). This collection also retains the popular "radio remixes" of her other hits like "Opposites Attract" and "Crazy Cool", which are represented in different versions on the original album releases. Hopefully, this will capitalize on her success on "American Idol" and become another best seller for her.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stop screwing with Vibeology!, June 11, 2007

This review is from: Greatest Hits: Straight Up! (Audio CD)
This is by far a better collection than the previous greatest hits package. The non-single tracks here are better too. I suppose Virgin Records keeps including the insanely edited "Vibeology" video version for the sake of time? No Paula Abdul fan wants to hear the song chopped almost in half. And any non-Paula fan certainly isn't "getting" how great the song is by listening to it on this CD. Still, if you're a fan of Paula or of late '80s/early '90s top 40, this is a must-have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paula is STILL vibeolistic!, May 10, 2007
This review is from: Greatest Hits: Straight Up! (Audio CD)
You're going to want to buy this CD if you all ready haven't. It does include the greatest of her hits, everything from 'Straight Up' to 'Rush, Rush' to 'My Love is for Real'. Plus there are extra goodies on it such as the funky tunes 'Bend Time Back 'Round' and "It's All About Feeling Good", an unreleased single from "Head Over Heels". And unlike the last Greatest Hits package, this includes my all-time favorite Paula song, also from HOH "Ain't Never Gonna Give You Up" plus "Will You Marry Me?" from the Spellbound album.

The tunes are still catchy and it makes you wish Paula would come out with another album to add to her great repetoire.

This 2007 compilation finally collects all of Paula's hits on one disc. Even better, it doesn't contain any crappy remixes.

5.0 out of 5 stars a guilty pleasure that should be consumed by all, January 23, 2008
This review is from: Greatest Hits: Straight Up! (Audio CD)
This updated version of the American Idol judge's back catalog is a guilty pleasure that should be consumed by all. Maybe the reason I think it's so great is because Paula's music was all over the radio and pretty much set the soundtrack for my high school years. But now that I think about it, it's probably because I had a HUGE crush on Paula back in the day. Did you see the videos for "Cold Hearted Snake" and "My Love is For Real?"

Paula wasn't the greatest singer, but she knew what was hot at the time and ran with it. The music is still enjoyable as it was in the past, but probably with today's musical landscape, it is best enjoyed in small doses. After watching Paula on American Idol (and her strange behavior), plus seeing her on that Dr. Phil dating special, I think I might finally have a chance with her.

3.0 out of 5 stars Best of Paula, June 24, 2011
I bought this to add to my collection of classic rock. Some of it is more hiphop but the songs were all over the radio in the 80s.I enjoy it as a change of pace every now and then.
