5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Album
The album was a huge success in the US , peaking at #2 on the chart and has gone on to achieve multi-platinum status. In Europe the band would have to wait slightly longer for similar recognition, with "Light My Fire" originally stalling at #49 in the UK singles chart and the album failing to chart at all. However, in 1991, buoyed by the high profile of Oliver Stone's...

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap recording with missing audio
This is the worst recording of greatest hits by The Doors I have ever heard. At 1:50 in "Light My Fire", about 10 seconds is actually missing from the track. The copy of "The End" is actually taken from the Apocolypse Now original score, and in the middle of it, the song dies out for a good 30 seconds, and all you hear are jungle noises; which is really lame, because when...

This is the worst recording of greatest hits by The Doors I have ever heard. At 1:50 in "Light My Fire", about 10 seconds is actually missing from the track. The copy of "The End" is actually taken from the Apocolypse Now original score, and in the middle of it, the song dies out for a good 30 seconds, and all you hear are jungle noises; which is really lame, because when I want to listen to The Doors, I want to hear The Doors... not sound fx from a 30-year old movie.

The worst part is that none of the samples tell you this information, and none of this information is in any of the literature about the album. And, the one good review of this album has to be written by the guy who probably bootlegged the recording in the first place.

Amazon immediately reimbursed me for the bad tracks and eventually for the entire purchase price of the album, and that kinda has to mean something.

If you want a good Doors album, this ain't it. Keep looking.

However, in 1991, buoyed by the high profile of Oliver Stone's film The Doors, a re-issue of "Light My Fire" made #7 in the singles chart and the album made #43. It eventually spent more time on the UK chart than any other Doors studio album.

The album is #42 on "Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" and is also on "The Rolling Stone Hall Of Fame". The album is on Q magazine's "100 Greatest Albums Ever" and ranked #25 in NME magazine's list of the "Greatest Albums Of All Time". Critic/historian Piero Scaruffi named The Doors the fifth greatest rock album of all time.
