Great blues selections by Johnny Adams on this CD. His voice is so smooth and melodious. Pleae note: this CD is a compilation of "blues" songs recorded by Johnny Adams from his Rounder Records CD's, so if you are planning ot buy them all, then this one becomes superfluous.

This is a "full" 5 stars brilliant blues album. You cannot really ask for any better than this. Johnny vocals are top of the range and with the great Duke Robillard taking the lead on most of the tracks this is just a must have album for all the real blues fans out there. If you are really deep into the blues do not hesitate and add this one to your collection, you will never regret it.

This collection of more blues-based tunes from recent Adams vintage is a nice starting point for those less than familiar with the late, great Johnny Adams' long storied career in rhythm & blues, southern fried soul, gospel and, of course, the blues. Vocally and stylisticly Adams probabaly has more in common with Charles Brown, Bobby "Blue" Bland, and Capitol Records-era Lou Rawls, than say more gritty cats like Junior Wells or Howlin Wolf. Once indoctronated with Adams magestic voice (he was dubbed the "Tan Canary" as a young man) and tasty song-selection, you will eagerly want to delve into more of his sophisticated blues fair. Adams started out in the late 1950s and found some chart success in the 1960s with the now classic "Reconsider Me". There is nothing quite as commercially successful as that gem on this package, but those who enjoy Adams singing will find immediate pleasure in blues tracks, such as "Room with a View of the Blues", "Imitation of Love" (from the Doc Pomus catalogue and Adams tribute LP), or "My Heart is Hanging Heavy", which adds solid guitar licks to Adams fine vocal interpratation. One can't help but think Welch crooner and 60s heart-throb, Tom Jones, should donate a penny from every song he sells in homage to Johhny Adams, who's voice Jones still-draws on to this day. Just for kicks go back and check out Johnny Adams spilling out his heart on "Release Me", then follow that up with Tom Jones take, for a great sample of that. As for Johnny Adams Greatest Blues CD, its a great jumping in place and those newly-smitten wth Adams imfectious sound.
