5.0 out of 5 stars I really love this!
We are six and three and our mom is helping us type this review. We liked this show on PBS and have not stopped talking about it. We can't wait to do all of these experiments with Mom and Dad. It is the perfect gift for little kids because it is fun and also educational.

The experiment we want to try most is the snake fossil craft!

1.0 out of 5 stars Great ideas, but be BEWARE... Try them out first.
My kids love watching this dvd and the first thing we tried to make was the "Shake and Make Slushy." Well we put the ice and salt in the big zip lock, the fruit punch in the smaller one, put the little bag inside the big one and within 30 seconds of shaking the bag we practically had frostbite on our fingers! The dvd said nothing about wearing gloves, but if you didn't...

The dvd said nothing about wearing gloves, but if you didn't you wouldn't have any fingers left! On the dvd they shake it with their bare hands and even show children shaking it with their bare hands. I can't understand it and have watched it twice to be sure I did it right.

The second part of this concoction that went bad was when we took the smaller bag out, cut the corner off and squeezed it into the cups. It looked great, but the kids got a mouthful of SALT! They were practically throwing up it was so bad! I took a bite too and it was absolutely HORRIBLE! I had the kids immediately rinse their mouth out with water and we got right back in the saddle and did it again so they wouldn't be afraid to try more (even though they moaned and said they didn't want to try any more concoctions). This time we used gloves and we quickly rinsed the inner bag off with very cold tap water prior to squeezing it into the glass and the experience was MUCH more pleasant.

As I said, I watched this particular concoction demonstration twice and did it exactly as they said, but if you do it the way the recommend you won't like it either. They should have a concern for safety (no frostbite and no overdosing on sodium). The kids couldn't even eat the first one and were pretty discouraged with the freezing cold fingers and bad taste. I just hope the rest of the concoctions turn out better for us. I guess not everything that looks great really is great. I wouldn't shy away from these but just be very careful and ready to make the necessary modifications to make them safe.

A friend loaned me her copy and I had to buy one for myself. Uses household items to make some really cool stuff for kids.
Highly recommended!
