GREAT REWORKED HITS PACKAGE,
By A Customer
This review is from: Greatest & Latest (Audio CD)
Warrant is one of those bands that is almost too good at writing songs. You just can't seem to get them out of your head. Jani Lane has been doing it since 1987 and lands three new gems on this unique collection. First of all there are three new songs, "The Jones',"Southern Comfort," and "Bad Tattoo." All three are excellent and are worth the cost of the CD themselves. "The Jones'" is a pop-rock tune similar to "Bed of Roses," from Cherry Pie. "Southern Comfort" is a mid-tempo song in the "Sometimes She Cries" vain from DRFSR, and "Bad Tattoo" is the best and heaviest of the three harkening to "Hole In My Wall." from the Dog Eat Dog era. The other songs are re-recorded versions of their classics. Some have obvious changes while others are very subtle. Either way they are not just taken from their respective albums and repackaged as with the Sony release. The remixes are typical of the Cleopatra Record label. For some reason, they want to remix EVERYTHING. Regardless, this album is a breath of fresh air for the old tunes and a taste of what's to come with the new ones. Recommended.

.... Listening to a cd before you buy it is the way to go ... I promptly ordered it and got it yesterday. It out does my expectations, and that speaks, uh, volumes. I'm struggling w/ ... are the newly redone songs better than the new tracks? Ya, this cd is great all the way around. So did I have Cherry Pie already? Not like this! (Why there is NO notation next to each track letting the buying public know it's a re-do is beyond me...) In case you hadn't figured it out ALL the songs you have loved and adored are completely re-done. Which is great because I always hated the production on the 1st Warrant CD ... Wait till you hear Heavan '99 ... and I never liked that song till this day. As far as the techno-babble at the end ... hey it's at the end ... just start the cd over or turn it off ... trust me, you'll want to do that. Jani Lane is the Paul McCartney of heavy rock, totally underated.

As people have written, this is a re-recording of all thier best hits of the 80's done by the late 90's line up. The vocals are still pretty good considering 10+ years of Rock and Roll life age on the vocal coards. The pace/tempo of most of the songs are much slower than the originals, and there is a bit more rawness to this mix. I can not fault these guys for trying to re-record these songs, and they were actually ahead of many other bands doing this (dokken, foriegner, and kiss have all done this in 2009/10). The 3 new tracks are pretty good, but the re-mixes were really not necessary, unless you are open to dance/canned beat box overdubs. It is what it is, and is what I expected from an album on the Deadline Label.
