GREAT REWORKED HITS PACKAGE,
By A Customer
This review is from: Greatest & Latest (Audio CD)
Warrant is one of those bands that is almost too good at writing songs. You just can't seem to get them out of your head. Jani Lane has been doing it since 1987 and lands three new gems on this unique collection. First of all there are three new songs, "The Jones',"Southern Comfort," and "Bad Tattoo." All three are excellent and are worth the cost of the CD themselves. "The Jones'" is a pop-rock tune similar to "Bed of Roses," from Cherry Pie. "Southern Comfort" is a mid-tempo song in the "Sometimes She Cries" vain from DRFSR, and "Bad Tattoo" is the best and heaviest of the three harkening to "Hole In My Wall." from the Dog Eat Dog era. The other songs are re-recorded versions of their classics. Some have obvious changes while others are very subtle. Either way they are not just taken from their respective albums and repackaged as with the Sony release. The remixes are typical of the Cleopatra Record label. For some reason, they want to remix EVERYTHING. Regardless, this album is a breath of fresh air for the old tunes and a taste of what's to come with the new ones. Recommended.

.... Listening to a cd before you buy it is the way to go ... I promptly ordered it and got it yesterday. It out does my expectations, and that speaks, uh, volumes. I'm struggling w/ ... are the newly redone songs better than the new tracks? Ya, this cd is great all the way around. So did I have Cherry Pie already? Not like this! (Why there is NO notation next to each track letting the buying public know it's a re-do is beyond me...) In case you hadn't figured it out ALL the songs you have loved and adored are completely re-done. Which is great because I always hated the production on the 1st Warrant CD ... Wait till you hear Heavan '99 ... and I never liked that song till this day. As far as the techno-babble at the end ... hey it's at the end ... just start the cd over or turn it off ... trust me, you'll want to do that. Jani Lane is the Paul McCartney of heavy rock, totally underated.

ok collection of warrant hits,

As people have written, this is a re-recording of all thier best hits of the 80's done by the late 90's line up. The vocals are still pretty good considering 10+ years of Rock and Roll life age on the vocal coards. The pace/tempo of most of the songs are much slower than the originals, and there is a bit more rawness to this mix. I can not fault these guys for trying to re-record these songs, and they were actually ahead of many other bands doing this (dokken, foriegner, and kiss have all done this in 2009/10). The 3 new tracks are pretty good, but the re-mixes were really not necessary, unless you are open to dance/canned beat box overdubs. It is what it is, and is what I expected from an album on the Deadline Label.

STUDIO ALBUM,
By
This review is from: Greatest & Latest (Audio CD)
It might sound like a greatest hits album but it's not, it's a new studio album from Warrant and it rocks. Features 3 new original songs: "Jones", "Southern Comfort" and "Bad Tattoo" and 9 newly recorded versions of previous Warrant songs. Heaven '99' and I Saw Red version 2 are almost better then the original versions. Also as a bonus there are 4 dance remixes of Warrant tracks.
Not sure why some people are upset that most of the songs are redone, because they also complain about to many compilation albums, and at least this album offers something new. There is also an import version of this album with a different title "Most Wanted", exactly the same except the 4 bonus remixes are replaced with 4 cover songs.

Greatest Re-Recorded,
By Micheal Hunt (Hellbourne) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Greatest & Latest (Audio CD)
I highly doubted I was going to like this album at all when I first heard that it was there greatest hits re-recorded. But wanting to hear some more Warrant then what I already had, I got a few more of there albums I didnt have.
After hearing those absolute stink-bomb albums they released, Ultraphobic and Belly To Belly, I figured they had screwed up completly and where going to perform these re-done songs in a grundge/alternative way. Thats not the case tho! I guess Warrant realised that changing direction to keep up with the trends is a stupid idea, and they realised that they are a hard rock band. They said after the second album (cherry pie) that they wanted to be a heavier sounding band, but the grundge and alternative direction was a stupid move. Now they realise they're a hard rock band and they can play hard rock a little heavier, and so that's what they have done on these re-recordings. Song's like Cherry Pie and Down Boy's sound pretty much the same, just in a harder way then the the pop-metal way they had before. Some song's I liked the new version of like "Heaven", "Uncle Toms Cabin" and "I saw Red" ... sure, I preffer the originals to all of these songs, but they sound OK in there new form. Some song's I didnt like the new rework on, especialy 32 pennis. I dont know what the hell they where thinking at the end of it, but it changes riff about 100 times for no reason and just doesnt fit together. I dunno, maybe Warrant where so sick of that song they decided to trash it or something? The new song's they wrote are pretty good. There soooooooo much better then the Ultraphobic/Belly to Bell s###. - Jones' - I'm not sure about that one, it's kinda catchy but didnt really make that much sense to me. I'd have to listen to it more to get a better opinion. - Hollywood So Far, So Good - It's OK, same as the first one, it needs a few listens to, but it's decent. - Bad Tattoo - I like, i can relate to it. - Southern Comfort - I think this is the best song they have written in years. I THINK it's about a hooker who doesnt like what she does, but she does it for the money and the booze helps her day to day... I could be wrong, I havent looked for the lyrics, but none the less, good song and shows Warrant's talent had'nt comepletly faded to black.

Where the Downboys go,
By A Customer
This review is from: Greatest & Latest (Audio CD)
Well, Warrant isn't back quite yet. If you ask me, they never really went away, with both Ultraphobic and Belly To Belly being great albums, but this is a return to their old Downboys sound, and what better way to do it than to re-record your biggest hits. It sure bits the hell out of a greatest hits album, because the updated songs really sound better than the original versions. And the new tracks are also pretty good, especially Bad Tattoo. The industrial mixes are... um.. how should I say this... well, they are just bonus tracks, so it's free music for you. I know all you hard core fans already have this, so I would recommend this to anyone who always wanted to pick up Cherry Pie but were afraid their friends would laugh at them. Now with the Hits and Live albums out of the way, an all-new material album would be grealy appriciated. Still waiting...

A Must Have For Warrant Fans!,

This is not another greatest hits album. All the old classic songs are redone and updated. They have a more raw sound. The new songs fit right in. Add the 4 remixes and you have a great album from a great band!
